Witch Fury

Elemental Witches 4

Sarafina has taken time off from work to bury and grieve her foster mother. She can’t afford to take off lots of time so she heads back home to Chicago the same day as the funeral. Expecting to pick up her beloved dog from a neighbor, she’s surprised to hear that rich playboy, Stefan Faucheux had already picked the dog up and was waiting for her in her apartment. Sarafina had never meet Stefan and had no idea why he would be in her apartment. The explanation she gets from Stefan doesn’t make sense and what even made less sense is Stefan kidnapped Sarafina!

Sarafina awakes to a world she didn’t even know existed and learns she has powers she never dreamed she had. Sarafina is a fire witch, an untrained one but a powerful one none the less. Stefan is not only the CEO of a multi-million dollar company but that company is a front for a group of warlocks which he heads. Warlocks are witches gone bad.

The Chicago coven of witches knows that the warlocks Stefan leads have been kidnapping witches. They plan a raid to release those kidnapped and hopefully take care of some of the warlocks. While they are able to release the captured witches, they are surprised and shocked to find Atrika, warrior demons from Eudae.

Sarafina doesn’t really care about all that, she just wants to get away. Her rescuer, Theo, isn’t so sure that Sarafina isn’t a warlock and he’s determined to get to the truth. The truth and Sarafina aren’t what Theo expected. As Sarafina learns more about this strange world that she’s be drug into, she also learns that Theo is more than the prickly man he shows the world.

Once again Ms Bast takes her readers on a fast paced adventure filled with magic as good battles evil and romance is found with the most unlikely characters. The world that has been developed over the course of the witch books is one that is both here in our reality and in a reality that can only be accessed by a magical portal. Both are well developed and for readers of this series of books, well known.

The characters are multi dimensional with quirks, personalities and problems. Sarafina’s father left her while her mother was crazy. Her mother also spontaneously combusted when Sarafina was a young child making her the talk of the town for years. Theo has had every girl that he’s been in a relationship with die. While Theo knows that their deaths weren’t really his fault, it makes him leery to start any kind of relationship with Sarafina regardless of how he feels about her and he’ll deny himself forever if it will keep her safe. Characters from previous books are intertwined throughout this story making the coven a living group. These characters continued to grow in this book giving a realistic feel to them.

The emotions and motivations behind actions were expressed extremely well. I found a passage that reflects that when Sarafina realizes why Theo rides a motorcycle. “Now Sarafina could see the appeal of motorcycles, whereas before she thought they were only the domain of the crazy, the stupid or men having midlife crises.   On the back of a bike, hurtling through the black, you could find freedom-if only temporarily-from everything behind you.” These kinds of revelations occur throughout the book as Sarafina begins to understand her new life, her feelings towards Theo and what kind of powers she’s capable of. Theo has similar thoughts and feelings as he learns to love.

Though this is part of a series of books, it does not need to be read with them. It would still be an excellent story without having read any other books in the series. The only things that you might have problems with are: fully understanding the demons of Eudae and understanding the importance of the elium. While these are important parts of this series, the full understanding of them isn’t necessary to enjoy the romance between Sarafina and Theo or the struggle between the coven and the warlocks.

This book keeps its readers interested with hot romance, interesting characters, intriguing demons and powerful emotions. I didn’t want to put it down and now that I’ve finished this book, I’m ready for the next!
