If you like Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, you’ll like this book too. It is part of a spin off series with Diesel, who was introduced in a between the numbers book in the Stephanie Plum series. The humor and tone of this book is extremely similar which means it is easy going and will have you grinning. Lizzy one of the main characters. She is good at what she does but defers to Diesel. Lots of magic or paranormal activity going on including a character who thinks she can cast spells but she isn’t very good at it. I found this story enjoyable and think it will make a great summer read or any type of lazy day indulgence. The storyline is easy to follow, the mystery is fairly simple and the characters are just plain fun. Of course, most of the book is totally not believable but I think that is part of the charm. This book does have some romantic elements and some sex is alluded to. Overall, this is a good solid book that exemplifies Ms Evanovich’s skills.
When a pirate museum display turns out to be a mummified rum runner from the ‘20’s, things begin to take a strange turn. Suddenly, there is a quest for pirate treasure and the mummy has hidden the clues. However, there is more than one person searching and one of the searchers will not stop for anything to find the treasure, and he has the money to do just about anything. Diesel is in a race with his cousin, Wulf to find all the pieces to the puzzle while Lizzy finds herself trying to stay alive, bake cupcakes and save the world. Who will win?
Lizzy and Diesel are back in an all-new wicked adventure from #1 New York Times bestselling author Janet Evanovich and Emmy Award–winning co-author Phoef Sutton.
Murdered and mummified nearly a century ago, notorious bootlegger Collier “Peg Leg” Dazzle discovered and re-hid a famous pirate’s treasure somewhere along the coast of New England. A vast collection of gold and silver coins and precious gems, the bounty also contains the Stone of Avarice—the very item reluctant treasure seeker Lizzy Tucker and her partner, Diesel, have been enlisted to find. While Lizzy would just like to live a quiet, semi-normal life, Diesel is all about the hunt. And this hunt is going to require a genuine treasure map and a ship worthy of sailing the seven seas . . . or at least getting them from Salem Harbor to Maine.
Greed is eternal and insatiable, and Lizzy and Diesel aren’t the only ones searching for the lost pirate’s chest. People who have dedicated their entire lives to finding it are willing to commit murder or make a deal with the devil just to hold the fortune in their hands. One of those people may even be Wulf, Diesel’s deceptively charming and enigmatic cousin. Wulf desires the Stone of Avarice. He also desires Lizzy. It’s hard to say how far he’s willing to go to gain either one.
Wicked Charms is a swashbuckling adventure full of raiders, monkeys, minions, and mayhem. Lizzy and Diesel are going to have to do everything they can to keep their heads above water and hope they’re living a charmed life.
