"White Knights" is the first book in a new series. It is a YA spin off of the popular Lexi Carmichael mystery series and like that series the main character is a female geek. Angel is the ultimate geek and is absolutely perfect for the main character for this series. She’s funny, serious and smart. Technology is a main component in this mystery and there is some slightly illegal hacking involved but mostly this story is about some really smart teenagers who want to do what is right. There are some adults involved with this including Lexi but mostly it’s about the teens. They’re struggles in school are real. Their desire to help is outstanding. Their abilities are stellar. This is a book I would want my teenage daughter to read. It is so seldom that girls have role models who are smart, involved and yet socially awkward who end up being the one who saves the day. I absolutely loved it.
The Story: Angel just wants to finish high school. She could have finished already but her mother wouldn’t let her. So now she attends high school and takes college classes online. What Angel doesn’t expect is that her last year of high school would be so different. First, she ends up with friends she’s not sure she wants. Then, she’s almost killed. And, then, she learns there is something different about her vice principal. Finally, things turn deadly! This is just on the first day. With this as a first day, Angel knows things are just going to get more interesting as the year continues but first she needs to take care of figuring out what is going on with her vice principal!
Geek Girls Rule!
My name is Angel Sinclair. I’m the youngest senior at Excalibur Academy for the Technologically Gifted and Talented in Washington, DC. I was pushed ahead a year because of my high IQ and considerable prowess behind the keyboard, making me an outcast even among my own peers. I’ve been looking for my dad all my life. A brilliant mathematician and cryptographer, he disappeared under mysterious circumstances when I was eighteen months old. Although my mom tells me I must put him in my past, it only makes me more determined to find out what happened to him. When weird accidents start happening at my school and the vice principal is involved in a deadly incident, I don’t see it as a coincidence. After launching my own investigation, with the aid of an unexpected set of allies calling themselves the White Knights, I discover a threat far greater than I ever could have imagined. I could take my discoveries to the authorities, but my own investigative methods would be at risk. Can anyone say hacking? No, it’s up to me to set things right. My objectives are straightforward: clear the name of the vice principal, learn the truth about my father, and stay alive. In other words, save the day and try not to look too much like a dork while doing it.
