Pippa Laingley and Cameron, Cam, Hollingsworth have been eyeing each other for quite a while, at least since Pippa’s friend Ashley’s wedding to Cam’s friend Devon where they were paired together in the bridal party. There is definitely sexual attraction and when they meet up again at Ashley and Devon’s house warming, they decide to act on it heading to Cam’s nearby house.
There Cam gives Pippa his standard this is a one night thing and I won’t be calling. Agreeing to this arrangement, the couple has a wonderful night of unrestrained sex with Pippa leaving in the morning. As Cam picks up, he discovers that one of the condoms has broken during the night. He waits but knows he has to call Pippa.
Pippa doesn’t expect Cam to call and when he does she’s shocked. She’s even more shocked by his news. Checking her calendar, she finds that the date is question is probably the best time for her to get pregnant.
Pippa doesn’t have plans to be pregnant. She has plans to open her own catering service. Cam doesn’t even plan on having children again. His wife and baby died in front of him and he never wants to go through that again.
So, what do they do when they learn that a baby is on the way?
Undone by her Tender Touch is Maya Banks’ fourth book about four men who are friends and business partners. Each book can be read without having read the others. However, in this, the last book in the series, all of the characters from the previous books make an appearance. This is great if you’ve read the previous books as you will get an update on what is going on in their lives.
I really was looking forward to Cam’s book. He was the dark, serious man who would do anything for his friends but didn’t warm up to many others. You knew he had to have a secret and his secret was concerning loosing his beloved wife and son. He didn’t ever want anyone else to touch his heart like they did. In this book, he sometimes acts like a jerk and sometimes pleasantly surprises you. In other words, he acts like a man.
Pippa knows what she wants and won’t settle for less. She’s ambitious and yet she’s very caring concerning those she loves. She’s willing to drop everything when Ashley calls and knows her friends care about her also.
However, I had a hard time dealing with her and her callous manner when she learns of Cam’s wife and child’s death. She didn’t want to know what happened but wanted Cam to get over it and move on with his life. While Cam did need to move on, Pippa needed to recognize that there will always be part of Cam that will grieve his dead family.
Moving on. Neither Cam nor Pippa expected a pregnancy so reading on how they are trying to cope with this unexpected turn of events was interesting. Where to turn and what to do? Cam wants to protect Pippa and their unborn child while Pippa wants to live life. Pippa wants Cam to be a loving, involved father and Cam wants to stay detached. Can they work this out before the baby comes?
First, let me say that I love Maya Banks’ work. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything she’s wrote that I hate weather it’s her Harlequin stories or her erotic romance. She always gives her characters depth and emotions. She also has her stories feel alive and believable.
All that being said, this is not one of her better works. That is not to say that this is a bad book because it’s not. I think part of the reason I didn’t enjoy this book as well as I’ve enjoyed others is Pippa’s lack of empathy for Cam. She came across as selfish and wanting it to be all about her in Cam’s life. Yet, her warm willingness to help her friends and her joy in Ashley giving birth almost redeems her.
This book is okay. If you’ve read the rest of the series, by all means, read this one. I know I had to find out what was going on with Cam. If you haven’t read the rest of this series, you will enjoy this book as it is a good solid story but I don’t feel as if it is as well done as the rest.
Just one night? Yeah, right. Pippa Laingley should have known better. When an unplanned evening of passion with Cameron Hollingsworth results in unplanned pregnancy, she's at a crossroads. She knew going in that the enigmatic entrepreneur had built a fortress around his feelings. What she's just discovered is that he's loved and lost before—wife and child. Tragically.
Now Cam stands to lose it all again. If he lets Pippa get too close. If he pushes her away with loveless arrangements of financial support. Either way, he's doomed…unless he can let himself love again.
