Touch of Steel

Clockwork Agents #2

This story’s enticing world intrigued me while it’s plot kept me wondering about the outcome. I knew it was a romance but it was more of a murder mystery set in a different past. The inventions were brilliant and the characters were so much more than spies for their reflective agencies. Family, loyalties and power struggles come into play as Claire goes after her brother’s killer under the watchful eye of Alistair. However, don’t think you’re sure of how this story will end because there are some very unique twists that change everything.

Claire is a spy for The Company. While attempting to kill the man who murdered her brother, she is shot and left for dead only to find herself in the custody of The Wardens of the Realm. Given that Claire is an enemy of the Wardens, she doesn’t expect to live but in a desperate attempt to find her brother’s murder, she will cut a deal with the Wardens to go after him. Alistair agrees to work with Claire. He plans on bringing back the man and the doctor who is traveling with him. He doesn’t trust Claire and is sure she will attempt to escape or harm him. Regardless of what he feels, he’s not going to proceed, even when it appears that Claire has the same problem.

This is the second book in this series but you do not have to read the first book to thoroughly enjoy and understand this one. The characters from the first book are in this one so those that have read the first book will have the pleasure of catching up with them.
