I love this story. Though part of a series, it can be read without having read a single book by Ms. Shearin but for fans of her work this story is awesome. Not only is the plot outstanding and the characters well thought out but there is so much action that you can’t put this book down. You’re never sure what will appear next! As a fan of Ms. Shearin’s stories I was thrilled to have characters from other books/series mentioned or appear in this one. However, I’m not sure if it is a plus or minus but there are numerous times that adventures from other books in this series are also mentioned. For readers of this series, these are nice memories but for those who have never read other books in this series I’m afraid it may distract. However, I may be wrong and it may give you the desire to check them out. (They are fun and truly great paranormal adventure stories.) As usual, I’m sad the story is finished, I can’t wait until the next book is out and I really would love to see some spin off series about the other SPI teams. This story is unique, interesting and imaginative.
This is a meeting that only happens every 100 years and is so enormous that SPI agents from not only around the country have been called in but from around the world. To say security is tight is not even close to how much thought and care has been put into the plans to keep all the delegates safe and keep them from killing each other. But no one saw what was coming! Suddenly monsters, real monsters, are popping up and then the entire convention is pulled into another dimension. Magic and weapons aren’t working correctly. This is not good. Can we figure out what is going on before things totally fall apart?
The agents of Supernatural Protection & Investigations (SPI) protect people from predatory supernaturals. This time, we’re the ones who need protection.
New York is one of the most popular convention destinations in the world—for humans and supernaturals. Every hundred years, rulers of the world’s supernatural races come together to negotiate and renew a peace treaty. Meeting in the same hotel are the governors of our world’s goblin and elf colonies. SPI is saddled with the security nightmare of keeping the living delegates alive and the undead delegates from becoming permanently deceased. We’ve got our work cut out for us.
I’m Makenna Fraser, seer for SPI. Our security nightmare becomes real when monsters from the delegates’ mythologies begin mysteriously appearing in the flesh to hunt delegates from every side of the debate. And when the hotel gets sucked into another dimension, there’s no escape.
We discover that we’re all pieces in an elaborate and deadly game. A game about to spill out into the real world. Failing to escape is game over and not an option. We have to save the world—but first, we have to save ourselves.
