Time travel, romance, intrigue and so much more are weaved into a story that I hated to put
down even as I couldn’t stay awake. The characters come alive and their struggles tug at your heartstrings. Emotions are everywhere from the love of a father to the loyalty of a clan. However, things are not always as they seem. Declan needs to marry but he seems to be sleeping with every woman he sees. No father wants his daughter to marry him without a high bride price! Emma is a strong woman with strong views that don’t exactly match those of medieval Scotland. Fighting is fierce and deadly throughout the story but the love is also just as fierce. I will admit I thought the story was about finished about half way through but I was so wrong. That was just the beginning. I truly couldn’t put this story down and when I finished it, I wanted to know about several of the secondary characters. They seem to be just as important to the story as the main ones and I want to see all of them have a happy ending. This isn’t the first book about this clan and I sure hope it’s not the last. Each story brings Scotland alive and each leaves you wanting more. This is a must read to anyone reader who loves the complex history of Scotland and loves a romance that has a rocky path. Totally an adventurous romance that is not to be missed.
Emma is dealing with the death of her grandmother who raised her. She’s at day 10 and depressed. While in the garden, Emma hears a scream. Turning to the sound she suddenly has a choice; go through a portal to help or stay where she is. If she goes, where is it she is going to? If she stays, can she live with herself for not helping? Going lands her in a Scotland she doesn’t know, in a century way before she was born and needing to call a stranger her father. Emma’s not sure what is happening but she has no choice. She can’t return home. Declan needs a bride. Legion has it that when the Laird of the Draig needs help someone from another time appears. Declan decides Emma must be the bride he needs. However, he has to convince Emma of that and the man who claims her as his daughter! It won’t be easy.
He needs a wife to secure his lands. She has no intention of being that wife.
A call for help transports Emma from her lonely world to medieval Scotland. Accepting her fate and opening her heart, she finds the love of a father, a trusted friend, and a child who captures her heart, but the arrogant laird offends her at every turn.
Declan, Laird of the Draig, carries the heavy burden of protecting and providing for those of the clan. Faced with the possibility of losing his land, his title, and his daughter, he accepts his own fate—he must marry and his dreams must die. A marriage of convenience is his only option.
Intrigued by Emma’s courage and strength, Declan uses every trick in the book to have her by his side and in his bed. Will the laird’s responsibilities destroy them both?
