The Darkest Hour

A KGI Novel, Book 1

Ethan Kelly's wife, Rachel died a year ago.  He's been mourning ever since.  On the anniversay of her death, he wants nothing more than to get drunk and get through the day.  When a fedex packet is delivered, he pretty much puts it aside to forget it about it.  When he does open it, he's not sure if it's someone's idea of a sick joke or could Rachel still be alive?  Taking the packet with him, he shares what he's learned with his brothers.

Donovan, Sam and Garrett Kelly have started their own business, KGI.  They go where others won't, to release hostages, take on the bad guys and similar missions.  Releasing Rachel from what appears to be a Colombian drug cartel is right up their alley.  With a little intell, they are off!

Rachel has been kept drugged but alive for a year.  Her memory is sketchy and she's extremely fragile.  She only remembers Ethan but some of her memories are of him yelling.  Does he really love her or is she just an obligation?  Why does she feel so scared when she has flashes of some of her memories?  Why were the Kelly's told she had died?

With more questions than answers, Rachel returns home only to find that it may not be as safe as everyone thinks it is.

This is a new series by Maya Banks and she's got herself another winner.

This story is action packed.  Not only does it have 6 hunks in it but it has all the action you could want from car crashes to gunfire.  Things never slow down around the Kelly's.  Even mom and dad get in the act when they find a teenager breaking into their kitchen for something to eat!

But its not just all action, it has lots of emotion running through it.  Rachel is emotionally and physically fragile.  She is trying to get herself together and may not have all the time she would like.  Ethan is feeling guilty.  He said and did something he wishes he could take back before Rachel was killed.  Now that she's back, can he gather up the courage to bare his soul to her?

It seems someone still wants Rachel dead.  Will she get herself together before they succeed?  Will Ethan and his brother be able to keep her safe?  And, who is behind all of this?

I knew better but couldn't help myself.  I started this book a couple of hours before I usually got to sleep and found myself not wanting to put it down.  I couldn't wait to start reading come morning and now will have to wait unitl the next book in this fantastic series comes out.

I can't think of anything that this story doesn't have.  It has danger, sexy guys, brave girls, tender moments as well as suspense.  Within pages you are hooked and you can't wait to see how it ends.

Though Ms Banks is known for her erotic romance, the explicit scenes she is known for are few in this book.  Ms Banks is also known as a Harlequin author.  This story is more explicit than that venue.  It's a wonderful compromise which fans of each should enjoy.

The Kelly Group International (KGI): A super elite, top secret, family-run business.
Qualifications: High intelligence, rock hard body, military background.
Mission: Hostage/kidnap victim recovery. Intelligence gathering. Handling jobs the US government can’t…
It’s been one year since ex-Navy SEAL Ethan Kelly last saw his wife Rachel alive. Overwhelmed by grief and guilt over his failures as a husband, Ethan shuts himself off from everything and everyone.
His brothers have tried to bring Ethan into the KGI fold, tried to break through the barriers he's built around himself, but Ethan refuses to respond …until he receives anonymous information claiming Rachel is alive.
To save her, Ethan will have to dodge bullets, cross a jungle, and risk falling captive to a deadly drug cartel that threatens his own demise. And even if he succeeds, he’ll have to force Rachel to recover memories she can’t and doesn’t want to relive—the minute by minute terror of her darkest hour—for their love, and their lives, may depend on it.
The Kelly Series centers around a military family. There are six Kelly brothers, all of whom served in different branches of the military. When the idea for this series came to me, the first question that always pops into my mind is where? For me this answer was immediate. I lived in Paris, Tennessee for several years and spent many a day on Kentucky Lake and in the Dover area. For me, it was the perfect place to base the stories.
The Kellys are a lot of fun to write. They’re loyal, hard working, fiercely competitive and family is the most important thing in their lives. Marlene Kelly is the matriarch of the large family and has a penchant for collecting “strays” as her sons tease her endlessly over. Over the years she’s added “adopted” family members to the fold and she incessantly mothers them all. Her most recent addition to the Kelly clan has her sons up in arms, but Marlene didn’t raise six rambunctious sons by being a wimp!
The first book in the series, The Darkest Hour, finds the Kelly family in turmoil after the death of Ethan Kelly’s wife a year before. Rachel was much beloved by all the Kellys and Ethan hides a dark secret about the state of his marriage before her fateful mercy mission to South America—the one she never came back from. Now on the one year anniversary of her death, he receives startling information. She’s alive.
