The Chase

Fox and O'Hare

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book but as I love Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series I was willing to give this new series a chance. Also, as this is the second book in the series, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to follow and enjoy the story or not. Let me tell you, my fears were groundless and though this story is nothing like Stephanie Plum, it is funny and very enjoyable. The characters while very different from each other seem to complement each other. Humor is an Evanovich trademark and it is clearly evident here. While most of the stunts are fairly unbelievable, their fun to read about. I really liked the meshing of two worlds, the above board FBI work and the undercover shady work. Expect lots of action where only the bad guys get hurt or killed, scams that are only against those who deserve it and a supporting father who jumps at the chance to shoot at bad guys. This story is fast paced and will bring you into it’s escapades quickly. If you like Stephanie Plum, give Kate O’Hare a chance. You won’t regret it!

Kate O’Hare works for the FBI. She seems obsessed with finding and arresting Nicolas Fox. Nick is a scam artist and thief. He’s on the FBI’s top 10 wanted. What people don’t know is Kate and Nick are working undercover for the FBI. They are after those that the FBI can’t go after in the normal way. Between them, they have the skills, knowledge and fast thinking to take on almost anyone. In this episode, they are going after the former White House chief of staff. It’s not as easy as it sounds as Carter Grove is not an easy going pencil pusher but is a man who heads a bunch of mercenaries masquerading as a security firm. Bullets will fly and secrets exposed as Kate and Nick work their magic and take on a man no one thinks can be brought to justice.

Book Blurb for The Chase

Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg, New York Times bestselling authors of The Heist, return in this action-packed, exciting adventure featuring master con artist Nicolas Fox and die-hard FBI agent Kate O’Hare. And this time around, things go from hot to nuclear when government secrets are on the line.

Internationally renowned thief and con artist Nicolas Fox is famous for running elaborate and daring scams. His greatest con of all: convincing the FBI to team him up with the only person who has ever caught him, and the only woman to ever capture his attention, Special Agent Kate O’Hare. Together they’ll go undercover to swindle and catch the world’s most wanted—and untouchable—criminals.

Their newest target is Carter Grove, a former White House chief of staff and the ruthless leader of a private security agency. Grove has stolen a rare Chinese artifact from the Smithsonian, a crime that will torpedo U.S. relations with China if it ever becomes public. Nick and Kate must work under the radar—and against the clock—to devise a plan to steal the piece back. Confronting Grove’s elite assassins, Nick and Kate rely on the skills of their ragtag crew, including a flamboyant actor, a Geek Squad techie, and a band of AARP-card-carrying mercenaries led by none other than Kate’s dad.

A daring heist and a deadly chase lead Nick and Kate from Washington, D.C., to Shanghai, from the highlands of Scotland to the underbelly of Montreal. But it’ll take more than death threats, trained henchmen, sleepless nights, and the fate of a dynasty’s priceless heirloom to outsmart Fox and O’Hare.
