I love Lisa Shearin’s books and couldn’t wait to read more about the adventures of Makenna, her partner, Ian and the rest of the SPI agents. An added plus are sexy goblins and elves. Mythical and magical creatures abound in this story which is the point as SPI stands for Supernatural Protection & Investigation. The characters in this story are unique and extremely interesting. The powers they have are equally diverse. The mystery part of the plot is compelling and kept my interest. The “battles” while a bit bloody are well described and you feel as if you are there. I just can’t say enough about how much I enjoy Ms. Shearin’s story telling abilities. The world that is developed is New York City in a way you’ve never seen. The issue of drug dealing is real in whatever world you are in. And greed plays a part in many illegal activities. There is so much going on in this book which is all tied together. This book is an outstanding urban fantasy that in infused with comedy. Don’t look for dark and dreary here. Fun, light-hearted and steamy are much better adjectives. And, while this book is part of a series, it is enjoyable without having read the rest of the series. However, past adventures are mentioned in this book. This book has to be a must read for any fantasy fan. (However, fans of Stephanie Plum who like paranormal will love this book too!)
Makenna is out for lunch with a handsome goblin when a human suddenly can see past the glamour of all the supernatural creatures in the café. Screaming and setting the place on fire, Makenna and her friends make an escape out of the back door. What happened? Humans shouldn’t be able to see past glamour. Finding out the truth is going to be death defying and dangerous. But, Makenna and the SPI are up to it, they hope.
Men in Black meets Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum in the new urban fantasy novel starring seer Makenna Fraser and her fellow agents at Supernatural Protection & Investigation.
The agents of Supernatural Protection & Investigations (SPI) know that fighting evil is a full-time job, especially when a new designer drug—with mind-blowing side effects—hits the streets...
It’s called Brimstone. And after the first few hits, you’ll see every supernatural beast sharing the sidewalk, train, or office with you. After that, you’ll start seeing the really scary stuff.
I’m Makenna Fraser, seer for the SPI. And the collateral damage caused by Brimstone is something I’d like to unsee: dead drug dealers missing their hearts—and souls. Because your local pusher doesn’t stand a chance against the new cartel muscling its way into New York. And since the drug can only be produced with magic and molten brimstone fresh from Hell, that means a rift to the underworld is open somewhere in the city.
And when—not if—the cartel loses control of it, well...
It’s going to be Hell on earth.
