The Boyfriend of the Month Club

Gracie O’Bryan has a date with one of Daytona, Florida’s most eligible bachelors, Brandon Farrell. They are too meet at one of the most exclusive French restaurants in town. When she arrives at the restaurant, she learns not only has Brandon not made reservations but her ex-boyfriend is the manager. All is not lost, or so Gracie thinks, as she receives a phone call to met Brandon at a local bar. After a guy she names Rosie Dimples tries to pick her up and Brandon becomes the worst date in history, Gracie heads back to her family’s gift shop and her monthly book club meeting.

The book club is made up of three of Gracie’s close friends. There use to be 3 more women but when Ellen insisted on reading more literary works, they dropped out. When Gracie arrives, the women discover that they are more interested in Gracie’s date than the book they were to have read which lead to the start of the Boyfriend of the Month Club.

In her enthusiasm, Ellen starts inviting friends and co-workers. She also hangs up flyers which bring even more women to this monthly meeting. But, has it gotten out of control?

Gracie has her own issues which don’t involve this boyfriend club. Her ex thinks he wants her back and isn’t taking no for an answer. Brandon would like to make up for his disastrous date and Gracie isn’t sure she wants to give him another chance. When she learns that Rosie Dimples is her new dentist, Joe Rosenblum, she’s sure she’ll need to find a new dentist. And that’s just her love life!

Gracie also has a few family issues to work out and the family store is loosing money. Gracie’s in charge but her father still owns it. There styles are extremely different. Can Gracie get her father into the 21st century or will she learn that father knows best?

The first thing that comes to mind with this book is the unique and fantastic humor that is found from the beginning and just doesn’t end. Gracie, her family and her friends seem to have their hearts in the right place but have emotions that run high and views that they don’t mind sharing. Perhaps this is how a nice quiet book club of 4 became a noisy, riot causing empowering group of over 100. It also might explain how Brandon ended up with a pitch of beer in his crouch.

The characters were terrific and felt so real. Gracie was far from perfect. Heck, you figured that out within the first few pages when she broke a tooth trying to open a shrink wrapped tampon. Brandon comes across as a masculine athletic man but Gracie has been warned by Joe that looks can be deceiving. What could Brandon be hiding? Besides, Joe seems to be the one not opening up! Gracie’s brother, Charlie has his secrets too. How is the family going to react when they come out?

One of the best things about this story is it feels as if it could be real. Daytona is described so you can feel it. You learn that there are bridges connecting the different sections of it and there are definite times when the tourists come. Even a local radio DJ makes an appearance and you could actually see someone like that on the air.

This story is believable but even more important it’s entertaining. I absolutely loved it and hated to put it down. Though it has over 300 pages, it just doesn’t feel that long. Chapters are short and action packed which keeps your interest. All of the characters are easy to relate to and the situations are every day things with a twist.

If you need a good laugh about the dating scene or just like to read about some fun characters, pick up the boyfriend of the month club. It’s a terrific way to relax and learn not to take things too seriously as characters look for love and find it where they don’t expect it. (or maybe they do.)

Book Blurb for The Boyfriend of the Month Club

This sexy, funny new novel asks: Can a woman find a modern-day Mr. Darcy in Daytona Beach?

At thirty, Grace O'Bryan has dated every loser in Daytona Beach. After the ultimate date-from-hell, Grace decides to turn her dwindling book club into a Boyfriend of the Month Club, where women can discuss the eligible men in their community. Where are the real life twenty-first century versions of literary heroes such as Heathcliff and Mr. Darcy?

Could it be successful and handsome Brandon Farrell, who is willing to overlook his disastrous first date with Grace and offers financial help for her parents' failing Florida gift shop? Or maybe sexy dentist Joe Rosenblum, who's great with a smile but not so great at commitment? Unfortunately, like books, men cannot always be judged by their covers...
