Nikki rescues horses and keeps them on her small ranch in Texas. She moved to that ranch when she married Wade, after she found out she was pregnant in high school. She lost the baby and eventually she finally divorced Wade. That was one of the best moves she’d ever made. When her brother was released from jail, Nikki allowed him to move in with her to help take care of the horses. Unfortunately, he’d rather watch TV. Still, Nikki trusts him until the night her world began to unravel and change.
On her way home from picking up a new rescue, her truck breaks down. Stopping to help is one of the men she has fantasies about, Dillon Barnett. He owns the neighboring ranch and has his own landscaping business. He’s totally hot and Nikki can think of lots of things she’d love to do with him. Dillon’s family is very well known and liked.
After helping Nikki off load her new horse and help with the chores her brother neglected to do, things start to heat up until they head into the house. Instead of finding her lazy brother, they find that everything she owns is gone! That includes furniture, appliances and even her clothes. Dillon does the only thing reasonable, after the cops leave; he takes Nikki home to his house and his bed.
Concerned with her safety, Dillon asks their good friend and his foster brother, Brett to stay with them at his house. Brett is a local cop and was extremely interested in Nikki in high school. Brett was so interested in Nikki that he had a heavy petting session with her, which ultimately caused a major fight between Dillon and Brett. This was rough as they were closer than Dillon is to his brothers.
With Dillon and Nikki progressing in their relationship and Brett forced to hear it all, can he stand to stay in Dillon’s house? Nikki finds that she is still attracted to Brett which is kind of sick considering she’s sleeping with Dillon. Dillon learns that he doesn’t have a problem with Brett touching Nikki but how far can he see it going when he wants Nikki for himself? With more questions than answers, these three close friends try to figure out how their relationships with each other are evolving. It looks like someone is going to get hurt though and can any of their relationships survive?
Within pages of starting this story the emotions drew me in and I wanted to stay. Things aren’t clear-cut and feelings do get in the way. Nikki’s parents try to give her a guilt trip when they learn all her things have been stolen and the cops were called. It couldn’t have been her younger brother and if it were, why would she take it outside the family! Dillon is furious that her brother has done this to her and even more mad about her family’s response. In the mist of this chaos, Nikki finds comfort in Brett’s arms even though she’s going home with Dillon. Talk about being confused! It sure does bring you right into the story though.
The characters are awesome. They aren’t perfect and their families aren’t perfect making them so real. Forget the sitting down and expressing your emotions. These are rough guys and a girl who has learned to stand on her own. They aren’t too good at talking about emotions and Brett learned as a young child to hide his. This isn’t to say that they don’t have strong emotions or feel things. Just that like many of us, they don’t want to make them known because they’re afraid of being hurt. Dillon and Brett love Nikki and care about her. Neither would hurt her for the world, which is why either of them will step out of the way of the other if that is who Nikki wants. They are struggling so hard not to destroy their friendship as they deal with them both wanting the same woman. Nikki would do anything for Dillon and Brett, even leaving them both to preserve their friendship. Can they figure out a solution or is someone getting hurt?
I don’t think I can express how much I enjoyed this book. I had no desire to put it down once I started it and when I was finished I was ready for more. I’m truly hoping that there will be more stories about Dillon’s siblings so I can get a glimpse at how this trio is doing.
Sexual, sensual, loving, caring, unique are just a few of the adjectives I could use to describe this book. The sex is hot yet caring. It’s adventurous but loving. Shocking truths are shared and others are discovered. This is just a fantastic romance that stretches the boundaries.
WORD OF WARNING: There are explicit sexual scenes and content that may not be to everyone’s taste. If sex with more than one guy bothers you or light bondage or a few other sexual adventures, this is not the book for you. However, if it doesn’t, grab this book quick and start reading. You won’t regret it.
