Connor Malone is perfectly happy working in his family's security business. They install and monitor security systems which is the first reason he says no when his father asks him to provide security for Lyric Jones. They don't do personal security, they do systems. Unfortunately, as Pop Malone was doing a favor for a friend, it didn't matter. Pop promised and Connor is the logical person to go. He's not looking forward to meeting Lyric.
Lyric is a pop star who finds herself in the tabloids, frequently. Some of the stories are lies, some are partially true and other are actually true. Lyric can't stand to be alone and surrounds herself with people. She doesn't exactly trust these people but they are better than being alone. She has two privately contracted bodyguards who do more than just guard her body. Spoiled and demanding are two words that describe the person Lyric has become. She doesn't want anyone to know her past.
Connor isn't impressed and neither is Lyric. Due to a close friendship between Lyric's producer and Connor's father, they are stuck with each other. Lyric is getting threats that no one has told her about. Connor is taking them seriously and is clueing Lyric in on what is happening. Can he keep her safe while wanting to do more than that? Lyric isn't helping when she storms out on Connor and ends up at the police station!
This is the fifth book in Maya Banks' sweet series. You do not need to read the previous books to thoroughly enjoy this one. However, if you have read the previous books, you will be happy to know that all of the characters from the previous books have a large role in this one.
The characters are awesome. Lyric is much more than just a spoiled diva. She has a past that influences her present and unless she makes some changes will influence her future. Connor figures her out though and soon has his own problems. He wants Lyric in his bed but after making comments about her personal guards earlier, this isn't going to be easy.
The secondary characters are just as awesome as the primary. Lyric and the wives, girlfriend and sister of the rest of the Malone security team seem to have hit it off. These women are ready for anything and willing to try most things. The guys will have their hands full keeping up with their women. However, Kane, the head of the security guys Connor hires, has no problems watching these women play and he learns quickly that Connor is a bit protective of Lyric.
As with all of Ms Banks' books, the sex is hot, graphic and perfect. Ms Banks is able to do a sex scene and make you feel as if you are part of it. Connor may be the vanilla lover of this crew but that doesn't mean his partner is left needy!
I received this book to review with a future due date. I couldn't wait though. I love Ms Banks' books and couldn't wait to start reading this book. I quickly found myself immersed in the story and was so glad it was Saturday and I could stay up late reading because my bedtime came and went with me not even pausing. There was no way I was putting this book down until I was finished!
I can honestly say that I liked this book better than I did a few of the previous books in this series. I needed to know who was threatening Lyric. I had to figure out what her secret was. Hanging out with the women became impossible to resist. I even came to like Kane!
This fast paced book had me visiting a concert, a rodeo and all over Houston. The emotions that were pulled from these pages had me on a roller coaster with Lyric rocking the house to Micah trying to convince Angel that they should get married. And like Lyric's concerts, this book rocks.
She's a singer who lives for the spotlight--and can't resist her adoring fans...
Outrageous and out-of-control, Lyric Jones is a spoiled pop star who lives hard and fast, always outrunning her past and the nightmares that haunt her. She's used to getting what she wants--groupies included--because she can't stand to be alone. So in bed, it's the more the merrier, even if it means closing off the deepest part of herself...
He's a hands-on bodyguard--and a one-woman man.
There is nothing Connor Malone wants to do less than babysit the celebratty songstress while she's on vacation. But part of him relishes taming Lyric and showing her what it's like to be possessed--body and soul--by one man. And though Lyric's crazy antics nearly drive Connor to the edge, his quiet intensity penetrates her defenses, leaving them both vulnerable to the secrets that could topple Lyric from the stage.
