Cole was having dinner with his good friends, Damien and Serena, when he heard her laugh. Memories came rushing back as he tried to locate her. It’s been 10 years since Cole walked away from Ren after hurting her while learning to use a whip. Before he hurt her worse, he left no realizing how much emotional pain he left her in.
When Ren gets up to leave with her master, Lucas, she doesn’t even see Cole. Cole notices though and sees the collar proclaiming her ownership. It doesn’t matter. He still has to see her. He enlists Damien’s help to meet up with Ren and Lucas not knowing what he will do.
Ren is shocked to see Cole. She’s even more shocked by the feelings that come rushing back. Her love is still there and she has no idea why. She becomes so distracted that even Lucas notices.
Lucas has no desire to share Ren. She is his and that is that. However, he also sees that she still has a connection with Cole. Because he wants to please her and give her what she needs, he meets with Cole and offers to leave Ren with him for two weeks, with a lot of stipulations.
Cole agrees thinking he will win Ren’s heart. What happens is she’s forced to choose between two men she loves! This isn’t what anyone wanted. Can it be fixed?
This is the final book in Maya Banks’ Sweet Series. While it is the final book, you really do not need to read the previous books to enjoy this one. Very few of the characters from the previous books are in this one and those that do make an appearance do not have major roles in the plot. That doesn’t mean that they aren’t important but they aren’t a major presence.
The main characters, Ren, Cole and Lucas are well defined. Ren knows what she wants and has no problem expressing those desires. She’s not going to settle. She likes when her master knows her as well as she knows herself. Cole is a dominant. He was one before he even knew about BDSM which is how he ended up hurting Ren in the first place. He feels guilt concerning that as she was in his care to keep her safe and happy. His sense of responsibility is huge. Lucas is also very dominant. He doesn’t back down to anyone but he wants to keep Ren happy. He’s had plenty of women before Ren but wants none after her. When Lucas and Cole get together they have problems not trying to dominate the other.
The world that Ms Banks uses is a rich man’s playground. Cole and Lucas are wealthy and it shows. Each has an estate, not a house. Each runs their own business and they run them well. Private jets and boats are at their disposal. But, neither feels as if they are above others. Though wealth is evident so is some very down to earth values and common sense.
This book is different that most of this series. It is broken down into three parts, one for each of the main characters. These breaking points are at transitions in the story and while probably not needed are welcome. It allows you to know which character is the one who will be predominately in charge of that section. Of course, Ren is actually in charge of everything and Cole and Lucas know it.
This is an erotic romance so expect lots of sex. In fact, expect lots of sex with several partners. This is also a BDSM book so spankings, being tied up and other play is in this story. The sex isn’t dry, without emotion. In fact, the opposite is true. There is plenty of emotional pull with each scene and each scene pushes the story forward.
I’ve read the Sweet Series from first book to last. In fact, the first book of this series was my first time reading erotic romance. Each book is different from the others yet each is tied to the others. This one is no different. Most of the other books though revolved around a security company run by Pop while this one doesn’t even mention it. Yet, it ties into the series well.
I enjoyed this story though I didn’t always get some of the reasoning behind a few of the scenes. It didn’t matter as the characters, action and plot kept my interest. From the beginning to the end, I wasn’t sure how this book was going to end and if there was going to be a happy ending for everyone. With strong characters, even the submissives, heads bump and tempers flare. This makes for a nice spicy mix when you add the BDSM elements.
