Seduce Me

Fielding Grey hunts antiquities for the right price. He’s made a fortune which replaces the one his father ran through trying to find the Templar’s gold prior to him being killed in a cave-in leaving Fielding with a title and little else. For the past seven years Fielding has been working on his own but when he started out he learned from his uncle, known as Raven.
Raven is heartless and cares little about anything other than his goals and desires. He will let nothing and no one stand in his way.
The Men of Solomon’s meet in secret. The membership isn’t easily found. In fact, the club is only rumored to exist. These men are scholars, looking for clues that will locate treasures or solve myths. In very rare cases due they hire anyone outside of their club but this is one of those rare times. They have located Pandora’s Box and must get it before it’s opened and its curses are released. Time is short as Raven is also after this box and who knows what he will do with it! Fielding is given the job and given the name of Esme Worthington as an expert on the box.
Esme is not what Fielding expected. He expected on older woman without a sense of adventure. What he found was a woman in her 20s who had been kidnapped by two rough men that work for Raven. Though not hired to be the rescuer of maidens, Fielding is able to locate Esme and help her escape but not before the two men had opened the box and had two bracelets attach themselves to their wrists.
Each bracelet is marked with one of Pandora’s curses: greed, disease, lust or hope. Fielding needs to figure out how to put the bracelets back into the box before turning it over to the Men of Solomon’s. As Esme researches this task, she is lured into opening the box herself only to find she also gets a bracelet. Though not proficient in old Greek, she makes out that she has the bracelet for lust. Well, that would explain why Fielding desires Esme as she’s not pretty and knows men do not like smart women and it would explain why Esme wants Fielding’s attentions. But, will they act on this or can they resist the curse of Pandora’s Box or is it a curse at all?
Set in Victorian England this book stays within the time setting yet feels fresh and real. Esme realizes the restrictions that the society she lives in requires of women and lives pretty much outside of it. She tries to stay quiet and keep her name out of circulation. Fielding is a viscount who knows that by working he’s outside polite society. As he doesn’t feel like a viscount, he asks people to call him Mr. even though he is due a higher title. Maybe because these two main characters are not the typical Victorian characters but seem to be more real is the reason this historical romance feels alive.
The main characters, Fielding and Esme, are well developed and placed well not only in the greater society but within their respective families. Esme lives with her aunt. This relationship is explored as Esme works on evading Raven. She also has a sister who she tells Fielding about. With that knowledge, Fielding goes to visit her only to find out the Esme was correct in her assessment that her sister considers her a bane. Fielding, also, interacts with his family especially as Raven is his uncle. But, he also visits his mother further giving his character history and motivation.
Though basically a romance, the quest for Pandora’s Box and trying to stay one step ahead of Raven gives this romance a nice adventurous twist. Men are killed, women are threatened and friendships are forged as Fielding and Esme work to discover how to return the bracelets to the box and how to keep the box and its key out of Raven’s hands. The bracelets aren’t just ornamentation. The curses on them are real and the affects are being felt.
I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced, action filled historical romance and wonder what adventure will the Men of Solomon’s start next.
