Xtreme Adventures, Book 2

Melanie Dixon had loved to climb and hang out with her friends until a freak accident happened. Melanie's ropes broke causing her to fall breaking bones and leaving her with scars, both physical and mental. Now, two years later she's trying to climb but at an indoor climbing gym. Her trainer, Derrick James has her fantasizing about more than climbing more than 15 feet!

Derrick is tall, dark and good with ropes. He's also a good friend of Melanie's brother, Kane. That is how Melanie met Derrick. However, Melanie would like to do more with Derrick than work with ropes. Little does Melanie know but Derrick has his own fantasies revolving around Melanie.

After an invite out to dinner, Melanie and Derrick quickly become a couple. Three months into their relationship, a man from Melanie's past appears.

Melanie had a major crush on Nathan King all through her teen years and Nathan knew it. Now, he's come to town to take pictures of Melanie for a magazine he works for and hopefully get her into his bed. Nathan doesn't poach on another man's girl so he quickly backs off. Still, he's here to take pictures and even talking Melanie into that may take some time. She doesn't want anyone to see her scaring.

Between both men and Melanie dealing with her physical and psychological issues, things get interesting quickly. She still has feelings for Nathan but doesn't want to hurt Derrick. She desires to climb but gets scared at 15 feet. She's positive her scars are hideous to the point of scaring people. Will there be a solution to any of this?

First and foremost, this was an awesome book on so many levels.

Melanie had more issues than just what guy to date or bed. She had a real mental block when it came to body image thanks to a guy who ran when he saw her scars. This reinforced that she was now horribly disfigured. She also wanted to return to a sport she loved. She was good at it and knew she should be able to overcome being scared. Watching the way she attacked both issues was terrific. It wasn't easy and quick which reflects real life.

All of the characters were done well. Nathan had motives that quickly changed. What was nice is watching how he emerged a better person after needed to adjust the way he looked at Melanie. Melanie knew things in her mind, some correctly and some wrong. She had to change her thinking in order to become the best person she could become. Even Derrick had to step back and adjust his thinking. He wanted the best for Melanie and wonders if that is him.

Alright, and the sex was hot and sweet. What better way to raise a woman's self imagine than to have two men lusting after her! Nathan and Derrick know their way around a woman's body and they are more than willing to show Melanie their moves. Get ready for some hot, sweaty bodies!

I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were believable, the situations were authentic and the sex was drool worthy. What more could I ask?

This the second book in a new series by Ms. Arend but you don't need to read the first book to thoroughly enjoy this one. In fact, I'm looking at buying the first book because this one was so good.

Stuck between a rock-solid man and a hard place…

Melanie Dixon’s body may have recovered from a horrific climbing accident, but her nerve is long gone. So is the natural enthusiasm for life she took for granted. Tired of being scared, beyond ready to conquer her fears, she pulls up stakes and moves to her brother’s new hometown to start over. Her first step is the most terrifying—to tackle the wall at the local climbing center.

Derrick James is mesmerized by Melanie’s dark beauty, and equally impressed with her climbing abilities and determination. Watching her retune rusty skills spurs a desire to partner with her—on and off the ropes. Melanie’s a compelling mix of wit, sensuality and vulnerability, and it’s his delicious task to convince her the scars on her body are no match for the heat rising between them.

Then a man from Melanie’s past shows up, pushing their relationship to the edge. Nathan King wants photographs for a “where are they now” series, but his side agenda is more personal in nature. A proposal that brings her out of her sensual shell and onto a precarious sexual ledge. Where trust is crucial…and too easily shattered.

Warning: This book may cause heart-pounding, body-shaking adrenaline attacks—and that’s before they leave the climbing gym. Contains blindfolds, ropes and a healthy dose of voyeurism. Go on—you know you like to watch.
