Ransom Canyon

Ransom Canyon, #1

This book is a bit different bit so very good. There are several points of view going on and each chapter and/or section is labeled on who’s point of view the story is going to be coming from. Some of time you won’t understand how one section related to the previous one but it will all come clear by the end. The book is about various residents of the town of Crossroads and it’s outlaying farms and ranches. They all mix and relate to each other differently. These relationships are what makes this story. The characters are diverse and extremely well written. You feel as though you are part of the town and know these people. And, not all of the characters are adults. A few are older teens who actually have a big part in this story. Once I started this story, I quickly found myself unable to put down this book. I also found myself needing to put it down for a few minutes due to the emotional pull of it. It became overwhelming. And, when I finished it, I wanted to know more. I had to return to my new found friends in Crossroads. Luckily, this is the first book in a new series so I’ll be able to return and hopefully visit with these new friends again.

Rancher Staten Kirkland has lost his wife and son. He turns to his wife’s best friend for comfort but knows that he’ll never open his heart again to love. Quinn O’Grady has loved Staten since they were children but she plans on keeping that secret and only taking what Staten is willing to give. Lucas Reyes may be working as a ranch hand while not in school but he has dreams and the desire to make them happen. Yancey Grey just got out of prison and he has dreams to. He’s just not sure how to make his a reality. Lauren is the sheriff’s daughter. She’s almost 16 and is ready to date, even though her father says she’s not. In the course of just a few months, these people will have major impacts on each other and their lives will never be the same again!

Book Blurb for Ransom Canyon

From New York Times bestselling author Jodi Thomas comes the first book in a compelling, emotionally resonant series set in a remote west Texas town—where family can be made by blood or by choice

Rancher Staten Kirkland, the last descendant of Ransom Canyon's founding father, is rugged and practical to the last. No one knows that when his troubling memories threaten to overwhelm him, he runs to lovely, reclusive Quinn O'Grady…or that she has her own secret that no one living knows.

Young Lucas Reyes has his eye on the prize—college, and the chance to become something more than a ranch hand's son. But one night, one wrong decision, will set his life on a course even he hadn't imagined.

Yancy Grey is running hard from his troubled past. He doesn't plan to stick around Ransom Canyon, just long enough to learn the town's weaknesses and how to use them for personal gain. Only Yancy, a common criminal since he was old enough to reach a car's pedals, isn't prepared for what he encounters.

In this dramatic new series, the lives, loves and ambitions of four families will converge, set against a landscape that can be as unforgiving as it is beautiful, where passion, property and pride are worth fighting—and even dying—for.
