This is the last book in this series and really should be read after reading at least some of the previous books. Beloved characters come together in this last story to save the world but as usual things don’t always go smoothly or how they are planned. The world that is developed in this series is fantastic with multiple layers and interesting characters. Nothing is as it appears, or at least it is seldom as it appears. In this, the final, how fiction becomes reality comes to light and how fictional characters develop is explored. However, death, kidnapping and horror become part of what must happen for the ending that is needed to save the world. The ending was awesome and so unexpected. It was also perfect. It is sad to say good-bye but I look forward to more stories from this talented author.
Zoey had hoped things would settle down for a while but those hopes are dashed when the Shadow Man appears. He’s out to destroy the world and starts by stealing children. Zoey has to call on all of her friends and she’s still not sure that will be enough. It’s a race against time and death as Zoey works to keep the Covenant and to keep the only two Aegises alive, alive. Can she do it?
When Zoey Donovan found out monsters are real, her life changed—mostly for the better. Since then, she's fought bad guys, saved the world a time or two and earned the love of a growing family of humans and Hidden creatures alike. But the danger that's chased her from the beginning is finally here.
Shadow Man, aka The Last Hidden, has stepped out of the story humans wrote for him and into the real world, hell-bent on stealing children. Fiction has become reality and Shadow Man intends to break the Covenant, reclaim the Hidden, and kill all Aegises along the way…triple bad news for Zoey and her mother, the only two Aegises still alive.
Zoey will have to rescue the stolen kids and hunt down the most terrifying villain humanity has ever imagined. But how can she fight a creature only invented a few years ago? If Shadow Man triumphs, the world as she knows it will end. If Zoey succeeds in driving him out, the people she loves the most may be lost to her forever.
