Culture clashes, deception and an unexplained attraction all come together in this exciting romance. The characters come to life as they live their lives working, loving and figuring out what they are doing. There is even a match making sister who likes to put her nose into things as well as an older brother who has romance problems of his own. Darby is a hard working man who just does what he has to. Mariah is on the run and has plenty of secrets she’s been taught not to share. These two main characters are so very different yet they come together so well. What I really like though is how this story is so much more than just one love story. The entire family is part of it, there are many layers and there is a complexity that reflects real life. As Darby and Mariah’s romance story comes to an end, you will be left wondering about other characters. Thankfully, this book is part of a series so these characters should show up in later books and satisfy your curiosity. BTW, you do not need to read the first book to enjoy this one. I really loved this story.
Darby really didn’t want to be at the local festival and can’t wait to get back to the bar he co-owns with his sister. He just has to wait to throw out t-shirts and then he can get back. While on the stage, his eyes meet with a woman he has never seen. He knows he has to meet her. However, he never expected to meet her and have his wallet fall out of her hand!
She never expected this Cahill to be her hero—or the only man she'd need
It's hard to forget a beautiful woman who picks your pocket the first time you meet. Darby Cahill recognizes Mariah Ayres the moment she walks into his bar looking for a job. He shouldn't hire her…or crave more after one impulsive kiss. But what starts as curiosity about her motives turns to concern when he senses how much danger she's in.
Mariah has been running ever since she left her fiancé at the altar. Now she's playing the part of the perfect employee, terrified that her past will catch up with her. But Darby has already seen through her act. He's the kind of guy who saves people. And even if Mariah's given him no reason to trust her, he's determined to protect her—and he'll risk his life to do it…
