Fianna Meadows has been stripped of her powers by the Faerie Court and sent to work as a waitress in a werewolf bar in Detroit . It took a while for her to figure out how to manage her life without magic but soon she found she enjoyed her job and was making friends. Watching over her and making sure she was doing as directed by the Court is werewolf Greg Novak.
Greg Novak owns the bar. He use to travel around playing music with a band but now he works at the bar. Working with him is a small pack of wolves that are Greg's pack. Greg's grandfather is the region's alpha and some time in the future Greg is expected to take over that roll.
After a visit from his grandfather, it appears that there will be some changes in Greg's life in the immediate future. His grandfather has told him that he needs to marry and he has the perfect wolf for him. Greg's not willing to accept that and asks Fianna to pretend to be his chosen mate.
There is one problem with this plan. Greg is definitely attracted to Fianna but doesn't want to do anything that would mess up her exile. Plus, he plans on marrying a wolf! Fianna would love to explore Greg. After all, he's one sexy wolf! However, she doesn't want to do anything that would get her moved from Greg's bar.
While all of that is well and good, there are some pressing matters that may take more importance. Someone is trying to kill them. In fact, someone is killing werewolves around the region. It appears that there is some type of drug involved. Getting mated might not even be an issue if they can't stay alive!
This is part of series of stories about paranormal beings in the Detroit area. Each can be read separately from the others but events and characters from the previous books are in the subsequent books.
The characters are awesome. Greg is an alpha but he has no desire to rule the region at this time. While he doesn't see eye to eye with his grandfather, he still wishes him a long life. The attraction he feels toward Fianna goes against his belief that he shouldn't take advantage of someone who works for him or someone that the Faerie Court has places with him as punishment. Fianna is learning all kinds of things about herself. She's also learning to do things she never though she could. The feelings she feels fro Greg are alien to her but she wouldn't mind checking them out.
The emotional pull is terrific. You get wrapped up in the story. The tension when a fire bomb is thrown into the bar is tangible. The friendship between the characters is real and when one betrays the pack, the hurt is staggering. The confusion of what and who is targeting werewolves is awesome and during this comes the clash of the old order versus the young.
I absolutely loved this book and this series. The characters just come alive and wrap you up in their problems, their dilemmas and their loves. Though most of the characters are totally paranormal, the stories are believable and because each story is built on the one before, beloved characters and story lines stay in each book.
I highly recommend this entertaining and enjoyable paranormal romance. Though I don't know how, it seems as if each book of this series gets better and better. You can't ask any more than that!
