Master Cullen is in charge of the trainees at the Shadowlands. The trainees are members of the club who want to learn more about being a submissive and want to find a master. Master Cullen never gets involved with any of the trainees. He’s professional and firm with them wanting them to find their own master. This isn’t his only job. His real job is investigating fires for the police department.
Andrea Eriksson knows she’s a submissive. Unfortunately, she’s having problems finding a Dom to master her. Part of her problem is her clothing. She presents herself as a Domme instead of a submissive. The other part is her attitude. Andrea was brought up to trust no one and to stand alone. She needs a Dom who has the power to control her which she hasn’t been finding in the Tampa area BDSM clubs. Her best friend, Antonio thinks he may have a solution.
Antonio has been feeding information to an arson investigator who also happens to train submissives in the private BDSM club, Shadowlands. Cullen owes him a few favors and Antonio plans on calling them in for Andrea.
Master Cullen is furious. He has no choice but to accept Andrea but he’s not happy about it. When she comes walking in, her clothes are totally inappropriate. Cullen knows that he has a lot of work in front of him and hopes that after the first night she’ll quit.
Andrea isn’t thrilled with Master Cullen. How dare he have her strip and change clothes in the middle of the bar area! She knows that the Shadowlands is her best bet to find a Master so she keeps quiet and does as she’s told. As long as no one grabs her, everything should be fine.
When Andrea keeps coming back she earns Master Cullen’s respect but he finds that his interest in Andrea is more than just an instructor. Andrea can’t find any Dom that attracts her more than Master Cullen. Can they keep to the rule of the trainer not becoming the master of a trainee or is this one rule that Master Cullen can’t help but to break? And if broken, can Andrea relax enough to trust Master Cullen with more than her body?
This is the fourth book in Ms Sinclair’s Master of the Shadowlands series. While you don’t have to read the previous books to thoroughly enjoy this one, they’re so good you really ought to read them. The characters from the previous books do make appearances in this book which allows the readers of this series to catch up with them which is always nice.
Master Cullen was introduced in the first book and has been a predominate character in the next three. He’s a much loved character who comes into his own in this story. His family is talked about as is his background making him as real as the guy next door.
Andrea is a very complex character. Her wants and desires do not always match her looks and actions. She has a lot to learn about the new lifestyle that she’s entering as well as herself. Her father has drilled independence into her but there is such as thing as being too independent. If she doesn’t at least attempt to change her ways, she’s going to loose her chance at happiness.
I don’t know how Ms Sinclair does it but it seems that each book she writes is better than the last, yet all are wonderful. She puts life into her characters and draws you into their world effortlessly and ties you into their emotions seamlessly. You don’t dare put down the book for fear that you might miss something. Then, when the story is over, you can’t wait until the next one is published. Thankfully, Ms Sinclair has introduced some new Doms into the Shadowlands Club so we have some more opportunities to visit it.
There are frequent and graphic sexual scenes in this book. This is a story about members of a BDSM club so those elements will also be in this story.
Andrea wants to submit, but not to just any so-called Dom. He has to be tougher than the slum-bred bullies she grew up with. She'd given up finding a true Dom when her friend finagles her a place as a trainee in an exclusive BDSM club with the powerful Shadowlands Masters. Andrea's thrilled...and terrified.
Forced to accept an unknown submissive into his carefully run trainee program, Master Cullen is furious. Not only is the young woman new to BDSM, but she's unsuited to her role--armored in leather like a Domme, she's more liable to punch a Dom than kneel. He decides to push her right back out the door. But as he ruthlessly intimidates her, punishes her, then cuddles her, he glimpses the woman inside the emotional barriers. Her utter surrender captures his heart.
Although Master Cullen is famous for his unfettered lifestyle, Andrea hopes he might be interested in her, until she discovers he's not just a bartender--he's a cop. Maybe he'd overlook her past brush with the law, but when another trainee accuses her of stealing money, Andrea knows she's lost the Master she wanted with all her heart.
