This has to be the most interesting war series that I’ve ever read. Set in purgatory with tons of paranormal creatures, Ms Fox mixes romance and humor into life and death situations. The gods are fighting and have been for centuries but the armies are made up of conscripts and not all of them are happy to be there. Finding ways to keep spirits up involves practical jokes and friends. This is the third book in the series and while you may miss some of the back story, you can still thoroughly enjoy this book. It’s fast paced with lots of surprises. Will love win out? Can they rebuild the cease-fire? What is the oracle talking about this time? Laughter and love become the primary themes as blood and death become a daily occurrence.
Dr Petra Robichaud has been enjoying the peace though she does have an issue that has nothing to do with the war. The man she thought was the love of her life is back in her life and there is something not right. Maybe it’s because she fell in love with special operative Galen. But, Galen left and doesn’t expect to ever return. Suddenly Galen does return with a beautiful woman he rescued throwing Petra into a even more confused state. Then, when the oracle prophesizes that the healer who can talk to the dead will do more daring deeds, Petra knows they are talking about her and is dreading what is to come. Suddenly, the MASH is full of patients needed their help, an operative needing hiding and a dragon who can’t control herself. Are any of them ever going to get out alive?
The hard-won cease-fire between the battling immortals doesn’t last long. In the blink of an eye, human surgeon Dr. Petra Robichaud is back on the frontlines, and starring in yet another of the oracle’s prophesies. As the only healer who can talk to the dead, Petra doesn’t have much choice about her role—even when her breathtaking ex-lover shows up at exactly the wrong time…
Petra may have moved on when Commander Galen left her, but she never forgot him—and the passionate moments they shared. Seeing him again is a distraction she really doesn’t need with both armies honing new weapons, and wounded all over her M*A*S*H unit. But how can she resist him? It’s now or never for the demi-god Galen to become Petra’s mate…but with the fate of humanity at stake, will their desire be worth the cost?
