Highland Flame

Highland Weddings, #4

Without even realizing it, suddenly the book was done but I wasn’t ready for it to be finished. I was so wrapped up in the story that time flew by and I wasn’t even aware. Yes, it was that spellbinding. The characters came to life with such ease and they were so easy to love. The intrigue and plotting was so real. You could see it happening and why. The hatred of the English came through even as Diocail became aware of how useful Jane could be. And, the historical facts that were woven throughout the story impacted the significance of what was going on. This was an awesome historical romance that I can’t rave enough about. It has to be one of the best Ms. Wine has written. Her Scottish world was alive and interesting. It wasn’t as if you were reading a romance that happened to be placed a few centuries ago. I was as if you were there and part of the world. Things weren’t easy or fair but people still lived and loved. If you read historical romance, this is one book you have to pick up. If you don’t, give this book a try anyway. You may find out that you really do.

Diocail has taken over leadership of the Gordon clan. He’s surprised no one with equal claim didn’t fight him for it. However, the clan is needs lots of work from rebuilding roofs to putting more food on the tables. Diocail isn’t sure how to tackle some of these tasks as they are usually a wife’s tasks and he’s not married. Jane is not going to become a whore no matter what her husband said or did. Maybe it’s a good thing that he got himself killed the night before. Jane knows the innkeeper has the right to take everything she has but she’s not sure how she’s going to get back to her father’s house in England wearing only a shift! Diocail isn’t sure what to do with an English woman walking around with nothing but he knows he has to do something. Maybe she can help run his house?
