Without even realizing it, suddenly the book was done but I wasn’t ready for it to be finished. I was so wrapped up in the story that time flew by and I wasn’t even aware. Yes, it was that spellbinding. The characters came to life with such ease and they were so easy to love. The intrigue and plotting was so real. You could see it happening and why. The hatred of the English came through even as Diocail became aware of how useful Jane could be. And, the historical facts that were woven throughout the story impacted the significance of what was going on. This was an awesome historical romance that I can’t rave enough about. It has to be one of the best Ms. Wine has written. Her Scottish world was alive and interesting. It wasn’t as if you were reading a romance that happened to be placed a few centuries ago. I was as if you were there and part of the world. Things weren’t easy or fair but people still lived and loved. If you read historical romance, this is one book you have to pick up. If you don’t, give this book a try anyway. You may find out that you really do.
