Awesome. Spellbinding. Epic. Can you tell I loved this book? I couldn’t put it down! All of the characters I had come to know and love were in it. The story was complex and multifaceted. The characters were likeable and loveable. Tension built and the ending was not sure as some characters were killed off. And the ending, was not expected and yet perfect. Guardian Demon was the perfect mesh of romance and fantasy which will satisfy anyone who likes either genre. I don’t know how Ms Brook does it but she sure knows how to draw a reader in and keep them glued to her story.
In this last book for Meljean Brook’s Guardian series, the mysterious Michael has to face something he’s never faced in over 8000 years, his death. As he does, he reaches out to grab all the memories he can of the woman he loves, Andromeda Taylor. But, more important for the world, Lucifer is making a portal to Earth and no human or vampire is safe if the 50 or so Guardians don’t stop him. Battles rage in hell and on Earth. Loved ones disappear with no trace. Guardians and those that work with them are working around the clock searching for clues and answers and all the while Michael knows he only has days to live. Taylor is learning how to be a Guardian; to fly, what her gift is, how to fight with a sword. Lots of storylines come to a head so the ending is glorious.
This is the last book in a series that could be classified as romance or as fantasy. Personally, I just found it enjoyable. Guardians are made when a person dies protecting another. They are then given the option and begin training for decades before they begin serving. Guardians protect humans from demons but do not interfere with humans’ free will. Also in this series are vampires, halflings, and all sorts of other paranormal entities. The stories range from light hearted to somewhat serious but all center around one couple and the love they discover. In Guardian Demon, all the characters seen in previous books make appearances. Because of this, it probably isn’t the best idea to read this story without having read at least some of the previous books. Plus lots of the previous books’ storylines are mentioned or needed in this one which would make this book confusing for someone not familiar with this series.
After a terrifying encounter in Hell destroys her trust in Michael, the Guardians' powerful leader, former detective Andromeda Taylor is ready to call it quits as one of the angelic warriors and resume her human life again. But when demonic forces threaten her closest friends and she uncovers a terrifying plot devised by Lucifer, Taylor is thrown straight into Michael's path again... To defeat Lucifer, Michael needs every Guardian by his side--and he needs Taylor more than any other. The detective is the key to keeping his own demonic side at bay, and Michael will do anything to protect her and keep her close. And when Taylor manifests a deadly power, her Gift might tip the scales in the endless war between Heaven and Hell...or it might destroy them both with a single touch.
