I found this story interesting, inspiring and one that I would probably say is geared towards high school/upper middle school students. While Ms. Wambach does take you through her professional and personal life, the way she did is was to make herself 2 Abbys that were opposites. This view, at first, had me thinking multiple personalities but it was really only a way to show that in many decisions she was torn. Her personal life includes her sexual confusion and a candid look at being lesbian. There is also a friend that is bi-sexual. The insight that Ms. Wambach shares on so many subjects is thought provoking. While some of her thoughts may come across long and wordy, the feelings behind them come through. You can feel her pain, her desires and so much. At other points, you can tell that she is using her position to bring attention to things she feels are important such as equality in sports. Throughout the entire book you know that family and friends are extremely important and influence much of her life. The fact that Ms. Wambach is still in her 30’s, I suspect that we haven’t heard the last from her. I’m going to be interested in seeing where this dynamic young woman will go. She is so much more than just a world class soccer player though that alone would make her remarkable. From the field and practice to dating and school, Ms. Wambach shares it all so you know she is more than just soccer. Good job, Ms. Wambach.
