Keri Daniels left her home in New Hampshire right out of high school and except for visits home hasn't even thought of returning. She's worked hard and moved up the ranks as a reporter. Now she's up for a promotion but her editor has given her a job and an ultimatum after learning that Keri has ties to reclusive bestselling author Joe Kowalski. Keri has to get an exclusive interview with Joe or she's fired!
Back in high school Keri and Joe were a couple. Keri has fond memories of that time but she hasn't seen Joe since. She knows he still lives in the same small town they grew up in along with his family. She also knows that their mothers are still friends. Does she dare to contact him after all this time? If she doesn't, can she start from the bottom at a different publication?
Joe thought he would marry Keri after college and they would be together forever so when she left right after graduation, it took him years to get over her. Now she wants to meet for dinner. Joe's intrigued and wonders where this meeting will lead.
Joe's plan for Keri's interview isn't what she expected and Joe's wondering what he was thinking. Keri will need to go on the Kowalski's annual summer vacation and participate in all the activities. In return, she will be allowed to ask one question per day. She's also limited on what Joe will answer.
Will she be able to get the interview her editor wants or will it all be for naught? What about the feelings that Joe and Keri still feel, even though both are trying hard to keep them hidden?
This is the first book in a series about the Kowalski family. I was reading Jaci Burton's blog when she recommended the third book in this series. Because I hate starting a series in the middle, I found the first two and I'm so glad I did. This is an excellent series to recommend to anyone.
Though the book is primarily about Keri and Joe, the entire Kowalski clan plays a big part in it. This is a large loud group that loves each other to the point that they have no problems butting into each others personal lives. The Kowalski parents, Leo and Mary, rule their family with a no nonsense attitude. Though grown, the kids know Mary has a wicked swing with her wooden spoon. Terry is Joe's twin sister and she is organized and opinioned. She also has marital problems and a almost teen daughter. The middle brother is Mike who is married to Lisa. They have four boys that never stop or slow down. The baby of the family is Kevin. Kevin is divorced and loves to flirt.
Terry isn't the only one with marital problems. Mike and Lisa are having some problems too. Terry and Mike's problems become intertwined with the family's vacation giving some great insights to the entire family dynamics.
But this story is about Joe and Keri and not Joe's siblings problems. The characters of Joe and Keri are terrific. They did grow up together and do have a past. They can't just ignore that fact. They also know that Keri's job is in California and Joe doesn't want to leave New Hampshire. As the days go by, they find themselves fighting against their need for each other. Well, what can it hurt if they give in knowing that in 2 weeks Keri will leave?
There is a whole spectrum of emotions going on. There are two couples having problems and Joe and Keri figuring out their relationship as well as 5 children who's lives are being disrupted and a couple adults who are holding a grudge. And you can't forget the love! For there really is a lot of love going on between couples, between parents and children and between siblings. This isn't a nice neat family but a messy chaotic one.
This is a romance novel but there isn't a lot of sex scenes in it. Instead, you get the rebuilding of a relationship and a couple of really interesting and hot scenes. As this family loves to 4 wheel, expect them to play a role in one of these scenes.
I've got to highly recommend this book. I had so much fun reading it. The Kowalski family is extremely entertaining and their family dynamics are awesome. The characters felt real and I'm sure that they are out there somewhere. I really didn't want this book to end because I really didn't want to leave this wonderful family. Thank goodness I really didn't have to as there are two more books that I can read and I couldn't wait! Now, who would this next book be about?
When Keri Daniels’ editor finds out she has previous carnal knowledge of reclusive bestselling author Joe Kowalski, she gives Keri a choice: get an interview or get a new job.
Joe’s never forgotten the first girl to break his heart, so he’s intrigued to hear Keri’s back in town—and looking for him. Despite his intense need for privacy, he’ll grant Keri an interview if it means a chance to finish what they started in high school.
He proposes an outrageous plan—for every day she survives with his family on their annual camping and four-wheeling trip, Keri can ask one question. Keri agrees; she’s worked too hard to walk away from her career.
But the chemistry between them is still as potent as the bug spray, Joe’s sister is out to avenge his broken heart and Keri hasn’t ridden an ATV since she was ten. Who knew a little blackmail, a whole lot of family and some sizzling romantic interludes could make Keri reconsider the old dream of Keri & Joe 2gether 4ever.
