Rafael de Luca is known as a business man and out to make a dollar no matter what. Several months ago he has a serious plane accident and now has large gaps in his memory. Beside him to help are his three good friends, Devon Carter, Ryan Beardsley and Cameron Hollingsworth. They have been close friends since they were freshmen in college and ready to make their mark on the world. Now at a party he's hosting he sees a woman he's drawn to meet.
After asking if they had met, Rafael is shocked at the anger directed at him from the pregnant woman.
Bryony Morgan feels she has every right to be angry. Have they ever met!!!! Rafael is the father of her baby. Oh, when he arrived at her island home he may have been an uptight man in an expensive suit but when he left weeks later, he had completely changed. Bryony thought he was coming back to her island paradise, so what happened?
Rafael may not remember Bryony or what promises she says he made, but he's willing to visit the island and try to remember. What he supposedly promised doesn't sound like anything he would normally promise. So, is Bryony for real or is this some type of scam?
Maya Banks is known for her erotic romances but this is a Harlequin so don't expect the mind blowing sex that are typical of her non-Harlequin books. This is your typical sweet romance that exemplifies Harlequin romances.
However, in typical Maya fashion the characters are very well done. They come across as multi-dimensional and extremely likeable, even when Raphael is being a pain. Bryony has family and friends surrounding her on the island. Her interactions with them tells a lot about her. Raphael has even more interesting reaction and interactions as all of these people remember him but he doesn't remember any of them! He's not wanting everyone to know he's lost his memory and he has to rely on Bryony's help.
The main issue, besides the lack of memory and Bryony's pregnancy, is Raphael's company wants to develop the island while Bryony and the islanders do not want any type of development. These two opposing sides will clash throughout the story. Can a compromise be reached? If it isn't, can Bryony or Raphael live with what the other has done?
I'm kind of ambiguous about this book. I liked the characters but felt the story lacked something. Much of the plot seemed a bit overused and similar to many other books which is extremely rare in any of Ms Banks books. Yet, I liked this sweet predictable romance. It isn't a book that I will say riveted me but it didn't bore me either.
"Have we met?"
Answer: a right hook! Because Bryony Morgan pulls no punches. Even when she's very pregnant and facing down the father of her unborn child. She fell for wealthy hotelier Rafael de Luca when he courted her for her beachfront real estate. Then he disappeared. Now, she's in New York for answers—and she won't accept a brush–off.
But selective amnesia after a crash has Rafael puzzled. How could he ever forget a combustible beauty like Bryony? Solution: return to the island where they met, and relive the unforgettable nights in question—until he remembers everything…
