This is such a fun series with each book building in the previous so it would be best if you start at the beginning and read in order. However, you may still enjoy just reading this one but it may not always make sense to you. This book is like fantasy characters gone wild. You think of the paranormal creature and it’s in this book. And, things aren’t always what you think they are. After all, who expects cooperative demons and a pregnant yeti! There is a more violent side to this book which is the fight between good and evil so expect some battles along with a few dead characters. And, you can’t forget the romance and love that is so elemental to this story. While Zoey and her reaper boyfriend have broke up, there is still something there that goes beyond duty. Parental love can be stifling as Zoey and her mother start to reconnect. And, even the closet monster has romance issues when his ex comes back while he is interested in a human. Complex and interesting. This book is absolutely wonderful and I really loved it. I couldn’t imagine how things would end and the imagination that sparked this book (and this series) is positively awesome.
Zoey has saved her mother, with the help of her friends, but someone or something is still killing the Aegis. There are only a handful left in the world! At a world conference, Zoey learns that not only are the Aegis being killed but almost every counsel is being destroyed. Her life and every Aegis’s left are in major danger. Zoey, unlike most Aegis, isn’t going to just sit back and wait to die. She wants to fight back. But, can she? And who is she going after?
A Monster Haven Story, book five
Zoey Donovan—Aegis and co-opted protector of all things supernatural—is moving up in the Hidden world. Actually, she's being dropkicked onto the front lines of a fight between the newly formed Cult of Imagination and Hidden governments everywhere.
The Cult is opening portals and unleashing demons, vampires and werewolves, growing closer to breaking the lock that holds back the zombie apocalypse with every world they crack open. Oh, and they want every last Aegis in the world dead, and a roving band of Hidden worshippers is only too eager to assist.
On the upside, Zoey finally has her mother back. But having another Aegis around—one with very different ideas on how to run things—is proving difficult. For their own safety, they're stuck inside Zoey's home. What was once a haven is now a prison, further straining maternal relations and alienating her reaper boyfriend. Taking down a cult and saving the world—again—would be a lot easier if she could go farther than her own driveway.
