Cowgirls Don't Cry

Brandt McKay felt a connection to Jessie from the first time her saw her. Then, she married his brother, Luke. Though she was married to Luke, Brandt fell in love with her and her generous, loving heart all while Luke was cheating on her. When Luke dead, Brandt was there to help Jessie in whatever way possible especially after their father threw her off the ranch and out of her home. After a year, Brandt shared that he had more than brotherly feelings towards Jessie only to be turned down. Now, he has to share news with her that will only bring more heartache for everyone.

Jessie has always liked Brandt as her best friend. After he shared his feelings and stopped coming around, she really missed him. However, after he found her at the lake basically making a fool of herself, she doesn’t want to see him. Whatever he has to say to her can’t be that important, can it?

Jessie learns that yes it can be that important when Brandt follows her home from his cousin Keely’s wedding reception. Apparently, Luke got a teenage girl pregnant and now that girl is going to jail and needs someone to watch her 17 month old son, Landon. She contacted Brandt but he needs help as he still has to work the ranch. He doesn’t dare ask his parents due to his father’s attitude but he has to have a workable plan before he tells them that they are grandparents. But telling Jessie that Luke left behind a baby, a baby that she should have had, is going to kill him and her. Even worse, Brandt has to ask Jessie if she can help him watch Landon.

Jessie agrees to Brandt’s plan but with stipulations of her own. Sharing a house and responsibilities without benefits can get wearing, especially when the two adults are attracted to each other. Will Landon bring them closer or will he be the final wedge between them?

This is another great addition to Ms James’s Rough Rider series. Though the original family’s stories are pretty much finished, now we learn about their cousins. They are just as wild as their older cousins but their father isn’t nearly as understanding. While this is part of the Rough Rider series, it can be read without having read any of the previous books but once you get a taste of these hot cowboys, you’ll want to find the rest of the stories!

One of the best things about Ms James’s books is the emotional draw she brings into her characters. You can feel the anguish as Jessie has to deal with her husband’s cheating in a way she never imagined. As this news gets out, the disbelief among the family members comes through in a tangible way. Brandt’s uncertainty in asking Jessie to help watch Landon is almost as painful as Jessie’s embarrassment at being caught at the lake naked and in a compromising situation. At times the emotions are almost too painful to read yet you are compelled to continue on.

And emotional ties aren’t the only thing that draws you into this book. With just a few words Ms James has you in WY. You learn quickly that you just don’t jump into your truck in the winter. You must first see how bad the roads are. Snow starts blowing early and the feed shop carries winter clothes. I could almost feel the wind howling!

One of the most unique characteristics of Ms James’s books is her ability to take a horrible situation and turn it into a well rounded, up beat story. In this book, characters deal with a spouse’s unfaithfulness, an illegitimate child and an abusive father as well as a few more minor issues. Yet, each issue is dealt with sensitivity and is dealt with in such a way that you feel inspired.

Okay, and the best part of these books is the hot cowboys and fantastic sex. Yes, this is an erotic romance. So, wrapped throughout this amazing story is some of the best erotica that you can read. It’s real, it’s raw and it’s all out there.

While I love the love scenes, even if they were removed, this would be an awesome story. There is a solid plot among all that nekkid flesh.

If you can’t already tell, I have to highly recommend this story to anyone who loves western romance, erotica or just a good story.

Brandt McKay has avoided his sweet, sexy sister-in-law ever since the night he confessed his feelings for her weren’t the brotherly type. Unexpectedly faced with proof of Luke’s infidelity, Brandt is forced to ask for Jessie’s help in taking care of Luke’s young son. Jessie agrees on one condition—she wants Brandt’s boots exclusively under her bed for the duration.

The sexual heat that’s always simmered between them ignites. Brandt is determined to make the temporary situation permanent, proving to Jessie he’s a one-woman man. And Jessie is shaken by feelings she’s sworn never to have again for any man…especially not a McKay.

Warning: Contains branding-iron-hot sex , the one McKay on earth who wants to be tamed, and a woman who’s decided tame is for nice girls who finish last.
