This fairly short book (188 pages) has short stories from 18 erotic romance writers. There are a few extra pages after the stories which give you a brief bio of each author. There is also a short introduction to this work and the stories that it contains.
The first story, which really is the true introduction to this Best Women’s Erotica 2012, is not what most people would expect. It’s a story concerning a traffic jam, imagination and masturbation. It also lets you know that many of the stories contained will not be what you were expecting and that a unique voice in this genre will be explored.
Each author brings a unique twist to their story from multiple partners to a bit of teasing to some BDSM to some really strange fetishes. Some may be out of people’s comfort zones while others may just turn them off. (I found that there were several which just not only didn’t do anything for me, I couldn’t wait until they were finished!) Yet, each story represents another facet of human sexuality.
What is nice is getting a taste of different author styles and tastes in erotica. Not every author writes the same nor do they have the same tastes in sex. This quickly becomes apparent while reading this book. I had never read any of these authors and found I loved some, hated others and some were just okay.
I always think these types of books are wonderful as they give readers an introduction to several authors at once. While you may not love every story there should be a few you do. Don’t expect bland sexual experiences because there aren’t any in this book. Instead, think outside the box.
For what this book is and what it represents, it is a good sampling of women’s erotica. There should be at least one story that any reader of erotica will find they like. There may be others that challenge your comfort zones. And, you may even find an author or two you want to explore.
