This short young children’s book explores the differences between lots of different animals. Young wren steps outside of her nest in a crevice to see many different types of animals do fun, spectacular things that wren is unable to do. Each animal from fish to eagle encourages wren to join them. Unfortunately several of the animals encouraging wren to join them are natural predators for young wren which may confuse children when the neighbor’s cat eats the young fledgling in the yard instead of wanting to play. Regardless, it still shows that everyone is different and has different skills including young wren who learns that she can sing giving enjoyment to all. The story comes in short sentences and easy to understand words so those young readers will be able to follow the story with little difficulty. The pictures are bright, big and beautiful letting the reader enjoy the magical canyon where wren lives. I can see young children enjoying this story as it explores the love of nature.
