A Prince Among Men

Red, Hot, & Blue, Book 9

For a story set mostly in a war zone, there are a lot of sexy, romantic scenes and even a few with a bit of humor. Of course, this is a romance story so the romance is expected and maybe even the quickie sex but the humor was a spectacular extra touch. This is the 9th book in Cat Johnson’s Red, Hot and Blue series but you don’t need to read the previous books to thoroughly enjoy this one though characters from the previous books do make an appearance in this one. For such a short story, about 150 pages, there is a lot going on and plenty of depth, back story and action both in the “bedroom” and in the “field”. Expect emotions to run high, fire fights and a surprise appearance from royalty as a naïve reporter discovers the realities of war and the love of a soldier. But, will the reality be too much as she watches him put his life on the line? (I couldn’t put down this story even though I should have been in bed sleeping. It really kept my attention and interest from start to finish.)

Ryan Pettit writes a blog as Groundpounder because in the Army that is what he is. He tries to share the realities of what he is living through so even civilians can understand. He’s even gained a good size following including Vicki V with whom he shares some light flirtations. Vicki Vanover is an American reporter who wants to see firsthand how Afghanistan women live. To do that, she’s off to Afghanistan but being stuck in Kandahar she isn’t going to be able to do that. So, she figures out how to get closer to what she wants only to find herself in a very rustic setting. Ryan is told to keep Vicki safe but the attraction that they feel towards each other may get them in trouble! Especially when Ryan comes back from patrol to find Vicki asleep in his bunk. There isn’t much privacy when you share a hut and live in a war zone, but where there is a will, there may be a way.

Book Blurb for A Prince Among Men

Who needs a prince when there’s a sexy soldier in your bunk? Hoo rah!

Sergeant Ryan Pettit blogs anonymously as Groundpounder, recording non-confidential details of a deployment where every day feels exactly the same—until a female reporter shows up at his firebase. And he realizes nothing will ever be the same again.

Though his orders are clear—protect her, but make her life so miserable she high tails it back to London—the last thing he wants is to watch her leave in a cloud of Afghanistan dust.

Intrigued by Groundpounder’s blog posts, Vicki Vanover flirted, bribed, and outright threatened her way to the front lines outside of Kandahar. Nothing has ever stopped her from getting a story, but an accidental night in Ryan’s bunk is a distraction—and attraction—she never anticipated.

Yet Afghanistan leaves Vicki with more questions than answers. Why won’t Ryan let her anywhere near the local women she wants to interview? Who is the mysterious, red-headed Lt. Wales everyone treats with such deference? Worst of all, why is watching Ryan run toward danger, instead of away from it, enough to stop her heart?

Warning: Contains super-hot sexual encounters in the war zone.
