This book is the second in a series of erotic historical romances. Yes, there was sex back then and what happened behind closed doors could be quite risqué. Each chapter in this book starts with a wonder quote from The Ladies Book of Pleasures, a scandalous book complete with pictures! But, this book is so much more than just a romance with really hot sex (though it is also that). This book has secrets, betrayal, social climbing and so much more. There is a complex plot that has plenty of twists and turns. Choices are made and they aren’t always good ones. And, friends can evolve into lovers but can lovers evolve into a marriage? Jacinda is a wonderful character who grows so much in this story. Jason is impulsive but has a good heart. Each on their own is a fantastic character but together they are so much more. Ms Michaels has done an outstanding job with this story and has me impatiently waiting for the next book in this series. Who knew that an historical romance could be so much fun to read?
Jacinda has hidden away from society ever since the scandal. Even her own father had her removed from the family home to distance themselves from her. Still, Jacinda couldn’t turn down her good friends when they insisted she attend this party. She’s sure they didn’t realize that it was on her birthday, not that anyone else noticed either. Little does she know that it’s actually a surprise birthday party for her. The only attendees are her close friends except for the Duke of Carnthorn who has brought an elderly friend of Jacinda’s. The Duke sees Jacinda as someone he can mold into his next mistress, after all, she’s already been spoiled for marriage. Jacinda’s friend Jason steps in but can he find Jacinda someone to marry?
A lady in the ballroom…a lover in the bedroom.
The Ladies Book of Pleasures, Book 2
When Lady Jacinda unwraps a scandalous birthday gift, she’s sure the anonymous giver is playing a cruel joke. The Ladies Book of Pleasures may be responsible for one gossiped-about marriage, but for a lady ruined by a rogue and shunned by society, Jacinda is doomed to a lonely, loveless future.
Worse, as she pages through the volume of passionate promises, she is observed by the wicked and dangerous Duke of Carnthorn—and now he is stalking her as a possible willing victim of his shocking preferences.
Jason, Earl of Northfield, is having none of it. Jacinda, keeper of his most painful secret, is a friend he will not abandon to a wolf like Carnthorn. As they embark on a pretend courtship—for her own protection, of course—their proper decorum in public melts into wicked passion in the bedroom.
But even as real feelings begin to develop between them, Carnthorn is watching. He is not convinced. And he is determined to possess Jacinda, no matter whom he has to destroy…
Warning: This book contains friends turning to lovers, a highly erotic secret affair and a wicked villain who will destroy what he cannot have.
