The Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat is the first volume in a three part series. This book is a M/M romance novel about Prince Damen, the rightful heir to the throne of Akielos, being sold into slavery to an enemy kingdom so he couldn't take over the throne. Damen’s new master Laurent, is beautiful, manipulative and deadly. Nothing is as it seems though in the court of Veretian. Scandal, survival and intrigue are all wrapped up in this first epic book.
I've had the privilege of reading quite a few amazing M/M novels and short stories by various different authors over the past few months. I can honestly say that The Captive Prince was right up there with the best that I've read. The subject matter of a prince being sold into slavery was a definite plus but for those who aren't into the captive/slave subject; this book would still be quite enjoyable to read. C.S. Pacat’s writing is solid and well defined, the characters are very well developed and the story as it plays out continues with slow reveals of the character secrets as well as the vulnerabilities.
There was intense chemistry between the two main characters throughout the entire story. They started out with their relationship being one way then slowly turning into something much different. The Captive Prince is a thriller, suspense and romance, set in an era of royalty and intrigue. This is NOT by any means a D/s or BDSM story but more a political/historical thriller and a romance. This is a must read for everyone and covers quite a few different genres.
From global phenomenon C. S. Pacat comes the first in her critically acclaimed trilogy—with a bonus story.
Damen is a warrior hero to his people, and the rightful heir to the throne of Akielos. But when his half brother seizes power, Damen is captured, stripped of his identity, and sent to serve the prince of an enemy nation as a pleasure slave.
Beautiful, manipulative, and deadly, his new master, Prince Laurent, epitomizes the worst of the court at Vere. But in the lethal political web of the Veretian court, nothing is as it seems, and when Damen finds himself caught up in a play for the throne, he must work together with Laurent to survive and save his country.
For Damen, there is just one rule: never, ever reveal his true identity. Because the one man Damen needs is the one man who has more reason to hate him than anyone else…
