C.L. Wilson takes us back to her engrossing world of Mystral in this second installment. Readers new to Wilson or this series need not be afraid to jump right in with this book. It fully stands alone and will have you wanting to read more by her. Wilson is the queen of fantasy romance and she shows that again with this tale. She effortlessly will have you pulled into her tale of love, betrayal and sorrow. Magic jumps off the pages as the characters wield it, some better than others. Wilson’s deep characters are made real with family connections and strong emotional bonds to family and country.
In “The Sea King” we have a handsome sea prince who has won the right to court the three magical Summerlea princesses. Prince Dilys Merimydion’s people have given him their recommendation when it comes to best princess to choose. But it’s up to him to really choose between Spring and Autumn who both have the most powerful weather gifts. Their sister Summer aka Gabriella is off the list as she’s never shown strong magic and she’s more of the “milktea” kind of woman. Dilys needs a very strong woman. But Gabriella has something up her sleeve and as Dilys soon finds out she’s all the woman he needs. But Gabriella is afraid of love as it could spin her massive power out of control. She’s been controlling it for years and bottling it up. As Dilys and Gabriella connect they will have to form a symbiotic relationship where true love and connection can help Gabriella find peace and the children she really wants.
“The Sea King” does have a lot of new fantasy words that were a bit difficult for me. But as the story continued I was able to catch onto their meanings and pick-up speed. Wilson’s sea prince and his society had me visualizing Hawaiian’s as magical seafarers.
I don’t want to give too much away as this book is a total treat to be enjoyed by each reader. I can say that you will be pulled into a tale and world that is purely fascinating fantasy.
I highly recommend the “The Sea King” and any other books by C.L. Wilson. She’s never disappointed me with the quality of her stories. It’s always the wait till the next book that has me stressed :0) in a good way. The first Mystral book, “The Winter King”, released in 2014 and this second book is just coming out in late 2017. I hope we don’t have to wait too long for another wonderful book in this series.
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Winter King comes a breathtaking new tale of love and adventure set in the mystical land of Mystral
He wasn’t supposed to choose her…
Seafaring prince Dilys Merimydion has been invited to court the three magical princesses of Summerlea. To eradicate the pirates threatening Calberna and to secure the power of the Sea Throne, Dilys vows to return home with a fierce warrior-queen as his bride. But politics has nothing to do with unexpected temptation.
She didn't dare wed him...
A weathermage like her sisters, Gabriella Coruscate’s gentleness exemplifies the qualities of her season name, Summer. Yet her quiet poise conceals dangerous powers she cannot begin to wield. Better to live without excitement, she reasons, than risk her heart and lose control—until an irresistible Sealord jolts her awake with a thunderclap of raw desire.
Until evil threatens everything they hold dear…
When pirates kidnap Summer and her sisters, Dilys begins a desperate quest to save the woman he loves. Only by combining his command of the seas with the unleashed fury of Summer’s formidable gifts can they defeat their brutal enemies and claim the most priceless victory of all: true love.
