In Colleen Gleason's, Rises the Night, you are drawn into the lives of vampires, slayers and power grabs. You will be transported to ballrooms and operas and experience the seedier sides of London and Rome. Around every corner you might meet death or be swept away into passions arms.
Lady Victoria Gardella Grantworth de Lacy is a slayer. She has lost her husband to vampires. He was turned into a vampire within one month of their marriage and is now no-longer part of the undead. Victoria grieves for her lost love, but knows that she must also go back to her job as slayer. The future of mankind is in her hands. Since the Vampire Queen left London, no vampires have been spotted. But one night Victoria finds two and knows that something must be brewing. She finds a small medallion that leads her south to Italy.
With the help of Sebastian Vioget she gains clues to what is brewing, but Victoria has many unanswered questions. Why is Sebastian helping her? Is it for love or is he leading her into a trap?
Rises the Night, the second installment in The Gardella Vampire Chronicles, was fast-paced compelling vampire romance. I read the first book, The Rest Falls Away earlier this year and was waiting for the second book in anticipation. Rises the Night met my expectations and I can't wait to see what's next in store Victoria. Ms. Gleason has taken a bit of Buffy and mixed her with the wonderful historical ballrooms, operas and society. Rises the Night had an in-depth plot that had me guessing peoples loyalties all the way through. I had no idea who would betray Victoria nor who would stick by her to the end. With deep plots and intriguing characters Ms. Gleason will be an author who I will follow for ages. I can't wait to see what she does next.
The saga of Victoria Gardella continues as the glorious nineteenth-century city of Rome gives rise to a new threat from the immortal undead....
Lady Victoria Gardella Grantworth de Lacy has been a vampire slayer for just over a year, balancing her life as a peer of Society with the dangerous role that takes her out on moonlit streets, stake in hand. She has learned brutal and heartbreaking lessons about the sacrifices that must be made in order to save humanity from the evil that secretly preys upon it, but she has not wavered in her vow to fight on.
Now, in Italy, a powerful vampire is amassing the power to control the souls of the dead. As Victoria races across Europe to stop what could be the most deadly army the Gardellas have ever faced, her unlikely companion is Sebastian Vioget--a man as tempting as he is untrustworthy.
But when Victoria discovers she has been betrayed by one of her most trusted allies, the truth will challenge all her powers as a Venator...and as a woman.
“This novel has enough dark, angst touches to it that I was utterly wrung out by the end. It is also so good that I couldn't wait to get online to see when the next in the series will come out…Not for the faint of heart, but the writing is wonderful and the characters really stand out vividly.” —All About Romance
The Gardella Vampire Hunters series should be read in order to avoid spoilers.
