The Guardians of Destiny, Book 1
Kate Perry enters the paranormal genre with a light paranormal romance that will have you seeking out the next in the Guardian's of Destiny series.
Don't go looking for vampires or werewolves in this book. They’re not there, but you will encounter the ghost of a disapproving father and elemental magic.
Gabrielle Sansouci Chin disinherited herself from her family when her mother died. She has not seen her father or brother since. Some of the people in Gabrielle's family line have had unique powers and have guarded one of the ancient magical scrolls. It's said if all the scrolls are brought together bad things will happen. While working at a local bar Gabrielle receives a package that contains the scroll. It's a signal that her father is dead and that she is now the rightful guardian. The next guardian in line is born with a birthmark and that's how its know that Gabrielle was to inherit the duties and not her older brother.
Around this same time she has one of the most gorgeous guys come into the bar. He is super hot, but he leaves shortly after. Shortly after that the ghost of Gabrielle's dad starts haunting her. She does everything she can to loose him. He's not the most caring dad. All he can do is complain about how she will never be a good guardian.
Gabrielle is attached and the scroll is missing. Will her hot guy be helping her to find it or is he actually out to get the scroll for himself. Is he also a guardian? Is he good or bad?
This is the first book by Kate Perry that I've read and I truly enjoyed the concepts that she has brought to this genre. With an Asian twist she has developed something different from other paranormal authors. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series. The publisher even gave us a sneak peak at the next book in the series. The sneak peak has me waiting on pins and needles for the second book in this series. I think it might be even better than Marked by Passion.

Rules for the (Very) Reluctant Guardian of the Scroll
One: Don't lose the artifact you've inherited from your ancestors—no matter how much it starts messing up your life.
Two: Do learn how to control its powers. (And, yes, that means putting up with uber-complicated Guardian lessons from your father's meddling ghost.)
Three: Don't trust anyone. Especially Rhys, the mysterious bad boy who's always one step ahead of you... and irresistible as sin.
Four: Do anything to keep the scroll from landing in the wrong hands—and destroying the world. Even if that brings on a heartbreaking betrayal, an evil you never saw coming, and a choice you may not live to regret.
