By the time you finish the second chapter of Last Kiss Goodnight you will be thinking about picking up the rest of the series and Googling Gena Showalter. We will have to wait some time for book two :o(. This is the first in the Otherworld Assassin series, but links to Gena’s Alien Huntress series.
In Last Kiss Goodnight you get pulled into a dark world. Vika, our fabulous heroine, has a very bad life filled with abuse. She is crushed under the thumb of her heinous circus owner father and other circus employees. She dreams of running away and getting a new identity. But to do that will take time. Her father showers her in beatings and jewels. She is his treasure, but also his punching bag. She is gathering her jewels and selling things off. Vika has a loving heart when it comes to those who are mistreated and towards animals.
Our hero Solo is unbelievably different than many heroes. He is an “Alien” living on Earth. He’s also a big guy who has been trained as an assassin. He is both dark and light and has two invisible consensus to mentally battle with. The love of foster parents has instilled in him the concept of love. When his emotions rise he morphs. His skin goes deep red, his teeth lengthen and his ears form into tips. He is frightening to many and has often been teased and called ugly names. It is going to take the love of a very special woman to see him for what he truly is. He will be a protector and loving partner to Vika, after much work on both their parts. These two do not have an easy road to travel.
I’ve enjoyed so many of Gena Showalters’ books. Like any author some books are better than others. I can say this one goes to the top of my personal Gena Showalter Favorites list. Now I not so patiently wait for the next book. I hope it’s here sooner than later. According to Gena the second title looks to be slated to come out 2013.
The sizzling first novel in New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter’s new paranormal romance series, Otherworld Assassins—featuring a black ops agent who is captured and enslaved, and the beautiful deaf girl who holds the key to his salvation.
A twisted menagerie exists, and otherworlders are the main attraction. Any time this zoo is about to be shut down, it vanishes and reappears somewhere else. When Solo’s latest mission is compromised, he wakes up in a cage, the newest “animal” on display. Vika is his new handler as well as the zoo owner’s daughter, and she’s been tasked with Solo’s care and feeding. They are supposed to be enemies, but they become lovers—until his feelings for her are used against him, and he’s put to the ultimate test.
