Darkfever

Fever Series, #1

Not many people can see the fae, and those who can guard their secret or they die. MacKayla Lane is a bit of a novelty. She grew up in small town USA and has never seen a fairy, but when she travels to Ireland in search of her sister things change. Here sister has been murdered and MacKayla must pick up the pieces. When Mac arrives she sees some of the most gorgeous people of her life and they are not locals. She also comes across a man name Jericho Barrons. Jericho is a powerful man and he owns a bookstore.

The fae have many magical objects, but one in particular is very powerful. The Sinsar Dubh is a book that would give control of the world to anyone with power. Depending on whose hands it's in it could be used for good or evil. To save the world Mac must find the book. She is unique even for her own kind as she can sense magic relics. So, Jericho uses Mac as a relics snifter, but should Mac trust Jericho at all or is he the evil she should be aware of?

Karen Marie Monings, DarkFever has made it into paperback and I'm sure many of her fans are rejoicing. If you have not read this book yet you should give it a try. It's not like most Karen Marie Monings books. This one is not really a romance, but a full-fledged fairy tale that has its very dark side. I loved it and the next book is just around the corner (10/16/2007). If you only like your romance with happy little ending this is not the book for you, but for those who can look outside that this is a deeply thrilling paranormal romp that will have you craving the next segment in the story. Enter the dark side if you dare, Ms. Moning will show you the way.

MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens. When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae…. As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands….
