Vampire For Christmas

PERSONAL SUMMARY:

A sensual tale mixed with drama and a dash of humor that will make you cheer for both the hero and the heroine to find their Happily-Ever-After!

SUMMARY: (taken from the author's website)

It was one last mission. Shannon, a demon hunter with the agency, is looking forward to leaving behind the small town and the vampire she’s been stuck with for the past two years. Things are getting complicated fast and she wants out. A fresh start, free of her vampire partner, awaits her if she can survive their final mission and the lonely Christmas holidays.

It was one last mission. Rafe, a vampire doing time with the agency, watches it approach with dread weighing heavily in his stomach. Two years of working with Shannon has been difficult, especially since he started falling for her, but he doesn’t want their partnership to end. He has barely a few days to make her face her feelings and stop her from leaving, and he intends to do just that.

When a slimy demon threatens the season of peace and goodwill, it’s the chance Rafe has been waiting for and the moment Shannon secretly fears. Rafe’s determination to pry open her heart and her own resolve to keep it closed clash as violently as they do with the demon, and threatens to end as messily.

Can Rafe make Shannon see that his love for her is real and that she feels something for him too? Can Shannon face her fears and her past, and stop herself from running away from both? Will a wish on a star bring her what her heart truly desires—a vampire for Christmas?

FIRST LINE:

His favorite prey.

Rafe stood on the lawn, his dark eyes following her from room to room in her large house.

FAVORITE LINE:

“There is a no staking your partner policy at the agency, remember?”

PLOT:

Vampire for Christmas will make you laugh out loud and possibly cry. For the length of the novella a lot of world building went into the plot of this story. I found the smoothness of the story quite relaxing to read and easy to follow. The emotions and nightmares that fueled the conflict for Shannon-the heroine of the story-really tugged at my own emotions, taking me from one chapter to the next until I just had to know if Shannon would be able to overcome her own barriers she walled herself in with. I found myself rooting for Rafe the entire time, watching him subtly push Shannon into accepting him for who and what he was, while helping her to move on from her past even if it meant not moving on with him in the picture.

WRITING:

I have read quite a few of Felicity Heaton's books. I love her style. She breathes life into plain characters giving them real-to-life emotions, transforming them into people you want to care about. With each new story, Ms. Heaton's voice is becoming stronger and I know when I pick up her books, I will not be disappointed.

CHARACTERS:

Shannon radiated a brooding, dramatic leave-me-the-hell-alone attitude from the beginning, and all with good reason. I enjoyed reading her journey from feeling angered and wanting to run, to gradually accepting her emotions towards Rafe.

Rafe proved himself a gentlemen from the first page. With not knowing her past, he sets out to make Shannon acknowledge her feelings while making her see his towards her. He shows an inner strength that helps him understand Shannon's emotional turmoil while proving that he himself has overcome his own demons. And while we are talking of demons, Ms. Heaton threw one hell of a slime ball (pun intended, you'll see...) at Shannon and Rafe, giving them something they will have to work together to defeat. Very comical moments!

LAST THOUGHTS:

Vampire for Christmas is a story that is full of downright comical action that will make you laugh one minute and have you, well, umm..., cringing the next! On the flip side, the emotions that surround the romance are true to the story and make you feel for both the hero and the heroine. This story was a very nice read that you could easily finish in one sitting and walk away with a smile.
