Plymouth, Minnesota may have been voted America’s best place to live by Money
Magazine, but Briggs would argue that point. It’s really a vague memory now. Such a short time ago, his mate had walked home from a long shift with sore feet and a deep ache to her back. What she hadn’t known at the time was that walk would change her life forever.
Instead, she gave them a wave as she tore a strip off Valor's gravel driveway.
A great continuation of the Blue Blood series! I'm just as satisfied with Silent Howl as I was with the first installment An Everlasting Bite. After finishing the first book I immediately picked up the second ready for more of Rynn and Briggs. The action didn't stop with the ending of the first book. No sooner had she returned from her friends bonding ceremony, Rynn finds herself knee deep in danger once again. Ms. Kennedy delivered a dosage of action and tension while lavishing the reader with a love story meant to pull at the heart. There were definitely sexy moments of spicy love making between the hero and heroine, so watch out for one devilishly powerful alpha werewolf! He'll demand your attention for sure.
I love to see how authors pull together a spin off series based lightly on another series they've penned. Some have a hard time creating a new series that is unique and different yet the same as the original series, so far Ms. Kennedy . Yes, we as readers do demand different material while wanting more of the same! Ms. Kennedy has no such trouble. She's managed to keep my interest in her Blue Blood series with compelling characters and an interesting plot that follow the rules and restrictions of her Magical Sword series. At the same time, this story focuses more on the Earthworld rather than the Otherworld, where the guardians of all things mystical reside. The world building of Rynn's world runs parallel to our 'real' world, blending together werewolves with unknowing humans. The author focused more on helping Rynn accept her new life as a werewolf mated to the beta and the bond they have formed. In Silent howl, Rynn is coming into her own. This fact alone has been interesting to follow. The strength within her is, as I always say for a strong heroine, something of an inspiration. Something I'll take with me long after I have finished the book.
The story starts out in Rynn's home town of Plymouth, Minnesota then moves to the Otherworld for a wonderful and touching bonding ceremony for Rynn's friend, Nexi. However the good vibes and happy feelings don't last long when a murder has been reported and her help as a blue blood is required. Rynn soon finds herself running through the back woods from Philadelphia to Baltimore hot on the trail of the killers.
Kennedy's Blue Blood series is told in third person. If you have read any of her other books you'll notice the lightness she sprinkles throughout her stories to add humor while also giving the reader that rush of adrenaline with her action scenes. She also writes in a unique style all her own. She forgoes weighing down her prose with to many details and opts for a more action packed book. The one thing I found in Silent Howl was the switch from third person to omniscient on a couple of occasions. The grammar was not as polished as I expected either, however neither slowed the reading nor broke my interest in wanting to find out what would happen by the end.
Rynn started out as a small character in Kennedy's Magical Sword series. Her story began after being violated by a werewolf in human form then attacked by the same werewolf while animal then left for dead, it was a miracle she lived at all. To pull herself up far enough to find the good in her life and to help others is a lesson I took away from this book. True she had a huge amount of help from her bonded mate, Briggs, but she had to have found the inner strength first before accepting the helps from others. This speaks highly of her as a strong heroine to me. Briggs of course proved himself a worthy mate for Rynn, as he never faltered in providing the love and strength as well as the understanding Rynn needed from her mate. Both characters have grown nicely together proving that love can help a person rise above the pain of their past and move on towards a solid life filled with happiness.
Ms. Kennedy has done it once again! Silent Howl should not be missed! Anyone that loves paranormal romance and wonderful characters that pull you into the story will enjoy this book. Her style is unique, and as I've said before, possibly unconventional, but her story telling is addictive none the less!
