SUMMARY: (blurb taken from author's site)
The horror of the night he failed to save his werewolf pack from the cruelty of their vampire masters has haunted Nicolae for one hundred years, driving him deep into the Canadian wilderness in search of peace. That peace is threatened when unfamiliar hunters and the scent of blood lead him to a beautiful woman and a hard decision-face his past and help her or risk losing everyone he cares about again.
Bearing a heart filled with grief and with vengeance on her mind, Tatyana is intent on killing the hunters she's tracking and returning to her vampire bloodline, but her plan didn't include being shot with poisoned arrows or rescued by a glowering alpha werewolf who stirs forbidden hunger in her.
When the hunters make their move, will Nicolae be able to stop them before it's too late? Will he be able to overcome the darkness in his heart and embrace his desire for a vampire? And can Tatyana face her fears and risk her life for the sake of forbidden love?
It offered him respite from the storm of his emotions, a balm that eased the darkness from his heart and cleared his mind of the insidious words whispered by his lingering desire for revenge. ~ Nicolae bathing in moonlight
Tatyana shook her head when Nicolae grabbed his black shirt, slung it on, and headed for the front door. She couldn't find her voice to tell him to stop, to beg him not to answer it and not to hand her over to the werewolf on the other side. It wasn't his order to be quiet that stole her voice. It was fear.
Hunter's Moon is the ninth book of the Vampire Realms series. No worries though, it can be read as a stand alone and be very enjoyable.
The real-to-life emotion laced into Nicolae's and Tatyana's story is present on every page. No matter if it is the sexual tension sparking between the two main characters or the heavy sadness each of them carries.
These two souls have lived through suffering and the pain of loss that would cripple a normal human being. Their hearts have been battered and their bodies show the tales of unspeakable brutality that only a werewolf or vampire could live through. Each have their demons to live with, yet Nicolae has the heaviest burden to bare. However, out of their own personal despair, heartache and need for vengeance comes a bond that surprises even them. This is the best part of the journey. While it's not an epic love story, Hunter's moon is a story that inspires hope and the freedom that comes with it.
Let's not forget the hair raising fight scenes that left me on the edge reading as fast as I could just to see the outcome. The hunters are a fierce group and are out for blood and not just any blood. They want werewolf and vampire blood! The plot is well paced with action intertwined with heart melting kisses that lead to more and saturated with so much emotion and sexual tension you can't avoided being sucked into the story. True, there was room for more between the two main characters, but it is a well rounded story. I can't help but wonder what happens from here though. I believe they have more to tell, more adventures and obstacles to face and I hope we get to see more of what lies ahead for these two unlikely lovers.
Hunter's Moon takes place high in the rugged mountainous regions of Canada with a few hours drive of Calgary. Winter is just setting in making Nicolae's log cabin a perfect setting for a forbidden romance to unfold.
Ms Heaton writes a story that gives you so much within the pages of her books. She pulls on deep emotions, brings them to light and explores how each affects her characters. She takes the reader on a journey through self discovery but never leaves out the adventure and thrill of the romance. I love her smooth style and have placed her on my permanent must have list.
Tatyana is a vampire that has not lost her human traits of compassion and caring for those close to her, unlike her vampire kind who are known for their cruelty and disconnection from feelings of any kind. She's been scarred emotionally and has yet to overcome the feeling of weakness and worthlessness instilled in her by her sire and bloodline. Although she is a vampire, you feel a connection with her the moment she steps into the story and you see how she reacts around the hero of the story. He also proves to be the most tempting sexiest alpha male Tatyana has even had the pleasure of seeing.
Nicolae has suffered for well over two lifetimes at the hands of Tatyana's kind. After spending a century at the mercy of vampires as a werewolf slave, Nicolae has lost everything at the hands of vampires. While vengeance is the underlying fuel tainting his soul, he seeks nothing more than his peaceful life hidden away in the mountains of Canada. Given the chance to seek even the smallest of vengeance against what has been done to him, he proves to have a strong moral base that guides him through his now peaceful life. He shows himself and Tatyana that the hatred infused into their minds by the Law Keepers and elders of both races has no bases, that just because they 'should' hate each other doesn't mean it is truth. He takes his time about it, but Nicolae shows how love has no boundaries and cannot be predicted.
Ms. Heaton is one author that has writing adventurous paranormal romances down to a fine art. Each story she pens is always unique and captivating. In Hunter Moon's she takes you into the mountains of Canada, spins a tale of betrayal and love, of love delivering true freedom and of vengeance well served. I highly recommend this book to all readers of paranormal romance. And as I said above, I hope to see more of Nicolae and Tatyana in future Vampire Realms books.
