Ascension

SUMMARY:(TAKEN FROM THE AUTHOR'S SITE)

A witch on the verge of achieving phenomenal power, Lealandra must turn to her half-breed demon ex-lover Taig for protection from the dark force that is after her and also from her own magic.

With her Counter-Balance dead and her coven against her, Taig's blood and power is the only thing that can help her control her magic and survive the ascension and gain the strength to defeat her enemy.

Old feelings come flooding back as Taig allows her into his world and Lealandra finds herself fighting not only for survival but to win his broken heart again and heal the pain in their past. Can he forgive her for walking out on him all those years ago and will he ever believe her when she tells him that he's not a monster but the man that she loves?

FIRST LINE:

Taig closed his eyes and released a long low groan of unexpected pleasure as Lealandra's warm mouth fused with his.

TEASER:

Gregori raised a hand and smiled at her. His hazel eyes shifted, the colour in them draining and then red surfacing. So that was how he wanted to play the game. Dirty. Lealandra released her focus and hold on her magic, allowing it free rein. It surged through her, claiming a fraction of control. She sensed the moment her eyes changed. It was the same moment that the voice in her mind joined with her own. Gregori was playing a fool's game. He hadn't ascended. His power was nothing compared to her own.

PLOT:

Felicity Heaton has done it once again! A story every lover of paranormal romance will love. Ascension is layered with action, adventure filled with powerful magic and just as powerful heart wrenching emotion that pulled at my heart strings until the very last word. Add betrayal and love wrapped up in danger and lust. Whew! What a ride...quite literally! To write this review without spoilers will be hard but here goes...

From the first kiss that opened the story on the very first page to the last kiss that ends the book I wanted nothing more than to read Lealandra's and Taig's through to the very end nonstop. More than the action and the adventure, this story is of two beings, one a demon and half human, the other a powerful witch. Both battling to control the power they hold and both battling to accept their inner self. Although, I am convinced Lealandra didn't realize she wasn't one with her magic at first. For Taig, he is convinced there is no place for him and no one willing to accept his darker self, himself included. The depth the author provides the reader through these two characters brought the entire book life and showed just how crippling it is to be unaccepted, either by yourself or by others. Most times I consider to much inward relfection causes the flow to slow resulting with me loosing interest, yet these two characters are so interesting I couldn't stop reading. And the attraction they have towards one another added the sizzling and sexy moments in just the right spots of the story.

Ascension is well written and shows a story of how two hearts can find happiness even through darkness, how light shines even in the darkest of corners. I loved how the author weaved in humor and great dialogue with inner reflections and action. She never let a dull moment into the story and by the end wrapped up Lealandra's and Taig's story while leaving a fabulous thread of hope for a squeal to come. While hearts and love might be mended, families need to be forged and in order to do that Hell will have to be paid a visit. I hope to see that story sooner rather than later because I'm already wanting Taig's and Lea's next adventure!

SETTING:

Ascension takes place in a city setting between the coven and it's leader that has is set against Lealandra and Taig's apartment that isn't as safe as it appears. Ahhh... yes, and a bar where vampires thirst for more than just human blood...

WRITING:

I am continuously amazed by Ms. Heaton's writing ability. Her fluid writing style allows me as the reader to 'see' the story unfold before me. The fighting scenes flood my mind as magic swirls around me and spells are cast, pulling me into the story. It's what a reader wants when they pick up a fiction book and Ms. Heaton delivers the goods!

CHARACTERS

Lealandra is one of the most caring and affectionate characters I have read in while. She isn't snarky or crass. She's not sarcastic or weak either. She is sensitive towards Taig feelings and emotions he works hard to keep buried, and at the same time has a backbone strong enough to carry her through battles of life and death. I couldn't stop chanting her on when she set her mind to making her alpha demon hero see her way and to spill the beans when she needed to hear those three famous words...

Taig, a very determined to not like himself or let anyone close demon, is one of the most dangerous and affectionate hero's that just makes you want to slap him and kiss him all on on page. To say more would give away to much. However, I will say that he spoke volumes without saying anything at all and Lealandra understood each and every unspoken word. I want more of the two characters and I can't wait to see what the author has in store for us!

LAST THOUGHTS

I feel very strongly about this book and loved everything about it! For all paranormal romance readers and lovers and even new comers to the genre, add Ascension to your MUST READ list because it is a story you won't want to miss!
