A Warrior's Witch

An Otheworld Romance

SUMMARY: (taken from the author's site)

Murder has brought Talon, Master of Guardians, as well as Zia, his witch and Master of Witches, to Chicago. The manner of death appears to be a suicide, but Talon is far from ready to close the case. To avenge the Guardian linked to his past, he agrees to take on the assignment, and find her killer. As they dive deeper into the investigation, they find themselves entering a world where BDSM is the norm. A lifestyle that Zia is uncomfortable with and, rattled by this new development, she is more than ready to return to the Otherworld. But their investigation quickly takes an unexpected twist when they discover that they're not only hunting a killer but also someone who is controlling supernaturals in Chicago. Their mission not only brings danger, but also forces Talon to deal with decades old guilt that corrodes his soul. Every event that unfolds only deepens his fight and pushes him to face an ultimate choice-what is more important-his duty to the Otherworld or the witch he holds closest to his heart?

TEASER:

All these things abandoned Talon's mind as he stood over the dead body on the ground. The woman's light brown hair draped over her face, but not enough to conceal her identity. She was no stranger to him. Her face held a bluish tinge, the rosy color he remembered she once had on her cheeks now gone. Whitlyn, his son's mother.

PLOT:

A Warrior's Witch is a spin-off from Ms. Kennedy's Magical Sword Series. I found this book to be magical story laden with love, family, and a sense of duty uniquely bestowed up the Otherworld leaders. Ms. Kennedy has brewed a bewitching puzzle of a story most all paranormal romance readers will love. As in all Kennedy books the fast-paced adventure never stops, taking the characters through situations most would find very entertaining and edgy indeed! From page one you are lead into a a rich world filled with a murder mystery, a romance we only see glimpses of in the Magical Sword Series and a deep look into the souls of a powerful witch and her Underworld Guardian. Although this book is based on two characters we meet in The Magical Sword Series, the author did a great job of making this book readable out of order, however I do recommend you read the aforementioned series for a complete view of the Otherwolrd workings.

I loved the author's ability to sprinkle the story with enough details throughout the entire book that severed to pull me into the world of Talon and Zia instead of burden the pace down with huge info dumps. I also thought it very creative and unique of the author to weave in the lifestyle of BDSM and build off that to enrich the relationship between Zia and Talon. It added emotion and a sensual layer I absolutely loved and absolutely expected for these two characters! The ending was also superb and will make you sigh in contentment as you read the last two words...."My Warrior." How's that for a teaser!

SETTING:

An adventure that takes readers from the Earthworld of Chicago all the way to Scotland!

WRITING:

While I was able to thoroughly enjoy this book, I thought the writer's style took a small step back from all the wonderful books she has recently released. While she writes a great third person, I found this book mixed with a little to much third omniscient and third limited that pulled me out of the story a few times. Yet, this small detail did not deter me from wanting to finish the book.

CHARACTERS:

From the beginning of The Magical sword Series I've always loved Talon and Zia. Although they were more strong secondary characters, they did have strong presence in the books that lent to them needing their own story and A Warrior's Witch is it!

Zia, the powerful Master of Witches is a very easy character to spend time. She's filled with insight and a gentle nature befitting her magical powers. Talon on the other hand, has always been less than gentle and a bit harder to read in the sense of his emotions. Yet, in this story, we finally get to see inside him and all his inner workings. I was surprised to see the tenderness and gentle way he cared for Zia, yet never losing his alpha persona that has carried him through being the Mater of Guardians. By the time I finished the book, I fell in love with both characters and enjoyed every word!

LAST THOUGHTS:

A Warrior's Witch was a very sensual and sexy paranormal romance that I enjoyed from cover to cover and believe anyone that enjoys this genre will also enjoy this book and this author! Stacey Kennedy made my must-read list a while back and she has continued to earn her spot with each books she releases!
