In a chat dialog B.J. Daniels states that in writing a series you have to be sure you don’t say something about a character you will later regret. INTO DUST is book five of the Montana Hamilton’s, a series that initially seemed to center around the long lost mother Sarah Hamilton. In each book one of Sarah’s six daughters has a starring role but make no mistake Sarah is crucial to this family and to the entire series. B.J. Daniels truly mastered the art of keeping her characters true and it couldn’t be more apparent than in INTO DUST.
When you picture dysfunctional family you may or may not think of the Hamilton’s, looks can be deceiving. The six sisters were basically raised by their widowed father Buck who is a future contender for President of the United States. Buck eventually remarried to a woman who easily fit the bill as the evil stepmother. And unfortunately she was killed in a tragic accident.
The bond between father and daughters is strong. And then the unimaginable occurs. Sarah returns from the dead – okay I’m being a little melodramatic here – but believe me it fits. With Sarah back in the picture it becomes obvious that the town of Beartooth Montana and its community will never be the same.
The Hamilton family is truly based and built on a house of cards. And in each book of this amazing riveting series these lives become more precarious as one by one each rocky and questionably stable layer is revealed. The Montana Hamilton’s is not your run of the mill cowboy rancher series. It is a political thriller embedded with chilling scenes involving people with a hidden agenda with an outcome that can’t be considered good for anyone.
In INTO DUST we are rewarded with some new crucial details about Sarah and her possible involvement with a gang of revolutionaries with a penchant for violence. In this installment daughter Cassidy survives an attempted abduction with the help of a stranger who happened at the right place at the right time. Do you believe in coincidence – well neither do I – and as a matter of face this little event is the stimulus for several additional seemingly random ones.
B.J. Daniels lets you draw your own conclusions as INTO DUST shows that things are unraveling at a heightened pace and we are along for quite a ride. INTO DUST has a fabulously complicated supporting cast many making a reappearance from previous books.
The path to President is never easy with a certain degree of security issues. The political health of Bucks campaign rivals the physical health and well-being of the candidate’s family. The road is murky. The end is in sight. Is the ultimate prize worth it? The Montana Hamilton’s provide quite a view of this journey. Don’t miss it.
