This is the story of three sister estranged for most of their lives, each with different fathers but shared a rather flighty mother Phoebe who left them shares of property and Maddie's part was Lucky Harbor Resort. After five years apart the sisters face some uncomfortable facts and make difficult decisions. To Maddie eating chips was the solution to all problems - when life got difficult, count on chips - but even that was not going to work this time. The sisters were differentiated by their rather unflattering nicknames, the mouse, wild child and steel magnolia. Maddie knew which one she was and wasn't proud to admit it fit her unassertive personality. Tara and Chloe wanted to sell and return to their own lives. Maddie saw restoring and staying in Lucky Harbor as an opportunity to finally have a family. Realistically they knew restoration was a prerequisite for even selling the resort. Maddie needed this place. As they learned to work together an amazing thing happened - they learned how to be sisters.
The sister learned a lot about Phoebe who had left behind witty Phoebe-isms . Each sister had a slew of insecurities but together was a force to reckon with. Maddie and Tara discover Lucky Harbor has a lot to offer including the possibility of finding their own Mr. Right. It is going to take a very special guy up to the challenge of these sisters.
Jax Cullen knew vulnerability when he saw it and Maddie had it in spades. He loved her laugh and sense of humor but worried about her tendency to doubt herself and eerily flinch. Maddie reached a part of his heart he thought long dead. Breaching the barriers Maddie set was going to be quite a task but Jax knew she was worth it. And there was no mistaking the chemistry which had all the local gossips tongues wagging - in a good way. For Maddie Jax made her believe in things she had stopped long ago. As the sisters continued to butt heads over selling the resort it became apparent that each came with their own share of baggage and Lucky Harbor could hold the answers.
Tara came face to face with her past but there's no way to avoid running into Ford in such a small town. Being around him dredges up regrets and bittersweet memories of a young love. Decisions made while in their teens continued to haunt them both but perhaps now was the perfect opportunity for them to forgive themselves and move on. Perhaps it was fate that brought them back together - or could their love still be very much alive.
This book centers on Maddie and Tara. Jill Shavis has written a wonderfully funny, sexy and heartwarming book you will not want to end - and luckily there is a sequel to look forward to. Shavis looks at life with a sense of humor that is contagious and engaging. If you weren't a fan of Shavis before this book will do the trick.
