ALL OUT OF LOVE is beautifully written about two people who couldn't be more different and yet so well suited for one another. That's the underlying theme of this series by LORI WILDE. The lesson is simple, keep your mind and heart open for possibilities. One of the most important things to remember is trust is easily lost but not easily won back so cherish it.
Book two set in Cupid Texas introduces two fascinating characters Pierce and Lace. Pierce met his personal goal becoming the Dallas Cowboys quarterback. Sidelined by a possible career ending injury Pierce comes home. His return isn't just to recover but in fact to spend time with his ailing father.
His return to Cupid isn't met with open arms by all. His brother is tired of being in his older brother’s shadow and doesn't mince words when facing this town hero. The other person less than delighted by Pierce return is Lace. Lace is part of the legacy family of this small town best known for its help column for the lovelorn.
Lace is a brilliant botanist who returns after receiving her doctorate and turning down a position with the Smithsonian. Home is Cupid and although there are memories she would rather forget, there's no denying that this is where she belongs. Being humiliated as a teenager has haunted Lace all her life. People have been less than kind judging Lace on her looks. That hurts but Lace has learned how to protect herself. The object of her teenage crush is back in town and Lace is determined to keep a wide berth. Taking care of plants is easier and safer. It involves care and tenderness and the rewards are great. Nothing more special than watching a plant bloom under your care. This has been her salvation in so many ways. Letting anyone into her special world will take an enormous amount of trust. Letting Pierce in will take a giant leap of love and trust. Reciting botanical terms helped Lace control her stuttering, tending plants gave her purpose, reopening her heart to Pierce could give her the love of her life – her soul mate. It’s certainly her biggest gamble but the rewards could be the stuff dreams are made of.
Pierce faces personal challenges that make him just as vulnerable. The big tough quarterback and the full size lady botanist make quite a pair. For the first time he was a long shot. As Lace pointed out now he was learning how others feel. Her brittle response to Pierce has an unexpected effect, he is charmed and attracted to this generously built, beautiful and intelligent woman. There's nothing superficial about Lace. She's the real deal, and is unimpressed by Pierce. After all these years could there possibly be a reason to think that these two could be a couple. It’s not about being all out of love it’s about the fear of trying again. Well in Cupid anything is possible.
Ingenious and infective repartee between two people who couldn’t be more different and yet it works. Well, LORI WILDE makes it works. Her stories about love in this little town couldn't be more charming and yet there is a sense that perhaps a little bit of magic is in the air. Who else would think of comparing the developing relationship to a part of the life cycle of a plant. I can't imagine a more wonderfully segmented story using plants as the root for the next chapter. No pun intended but plants are definitely at the root of this story. Not so much about putting down roots but really more about remember your own and also cherishing how important they are. Often said youth is wasted on the young. Young people have their sights on achieving major goals and successes. How wonderful to read a story about people who know the value of where they are from and the people who are important to their lives.
I for one can't wait for the next in the Cupid series, could be I am just a romantic at heart or that meeting these charismatic new people just makes me happy. And that's what it's all about isn’t it. Enjoy,
