Lia Morgan and her sister Sylvie haven't had contact for a long-time. Sylvie is a security expert, while Lia has a psychic link. It’s extremely shocking to Lia that her sister has gone missing. Luckily as a photographer Lia does not have to worry about having a job to get in the way of her search. The last one to see Sylvie was her ex. Slowly Lia starts seeing signs. For a long time Lia has had psychic impressions and is now seeing the number 8.
Going to the police station Lia inquires about her missing sister and the police are not helping whatsoever. They believe Sylvie just ran away. Going to a coffee shop to meet agent Mark Powers who has been following the investigation. Lia learns that there have already been some murders and the key to finding the killer is through the solving of crossword puzzles.
So agent Mark Powers calls up Dr. Jared Trimble who is in anthropology. He is an expert in solving crossword puzzles and hopefully can help solve clues to find the killer. Lia and Jared had a thing in the past. She and Jared spend time together while Mark says he is going on a trip. They eventually start spending time together and making up for lost time.
Lia then starts having dreams of the Victorian house she and her sister living in when they were very small. Finally realizing that she is getting a real clue about her sister's vanishing she goes to investigate the house and gets more than she bargained for.
Will Jared turn out to be involved in the kidnapping or will he be their savior? Is there room for love in this twisted suspense and will Lia and Sylvie finely find something to bring them back together again?
I thought this was a good story with a nice progression of both action and romance. Although I would of enjoyed the story even more if it was a bit longer and had more characters. There is also room for the mystery to me more entwined and less easy to figure out. Overall thought, I really did enjoy it and hopefully you will to.
Crisscross (noun): A web of deceit entangling a bestselling author and her small son, two ex-lovers, and a killer with a knack for cruciverbalism and a thirst for revenge.
A psychic, and skeptic, and serial killer… Lia Morgan has seen portents and signs since she was a teenager; however, few people believed her, including her own family. Although estranged, Lia travels across country to aid in the search for her missing sister, Sylvie. What seems to be a simple case gets complicated fast when Lia discovers her sister had a plethora of secrets, including a small son. Is her sister running from an impending paternity case like the police assume, or is her disappearance the work of a serial killer as her friends suspect?
An anthropologist and crossword puzzle fanatic, Jared Trimble is a packrat with a PhD. His world is grounded in the here and now, with no room for paranormal mumbo-jumbo. When Jared's asked to work as a consultant on a missing person's case involving a series of crossword puzzle clues, he's conflicted. One part's thrilled. The other part is suspicious; worried he fits the description of suspect more than investigator. All that is forgotten when he realizes his ex-lover, Lia Morgan, is the missing woman’s sister. While Lia follows signs and portents, Jared uses his wits and experience. When the two collide, nearly forgotten passions flare. As the final clue is revealed, the solution brings them both into the bull’s-eye of the serial killer's target.
