Sexy Cajun, Derrick Darbonne, is a Troubleshooter for Alamo Oil - he travels the world protecting the company's interests, and enforcing the law when situations arise, on off shore oil rigs - who's being framed for murder.
Coast Guard Ensign, Amber Meredith, is fresh out of the academy and has been assigned to prove Derrick is the murderer. Though she doesn't know him well, Derrick just happens to be the guy who's been renting the second story apartment in her house, and befriending her grandmother, for the last two years while she's attended college.
Derrick knows he's been set up, but doesn't know by whom. When the girl he's been head-over-heels in love with, for the last two years, shows up on his oil rig to investigate, he knows he's in far more trouble than just being put away for a murder he didn't commit.
Amber has a five year plan, career goals that do not include the mysterious bayou-boy and his toe-tingling accent. Derrick was abandoned by a mother who put career before her son, she walked out one day and never looked back. When it becomes clear that Derrick is being set up, and someone is out to murder him, Amber demands they work together to ferret out the killer.
At just over 25,000 words, Texas Christmas Mystery is a fast paced, Christian based, novella. Both Derrick and Amber were likeable, dimensional characters, and I enjoyed the nontraditional happily-ever-after ending.
As part of the Christmas Extraviganza, it's well worth picking up for a cozy read, with a hot coup of cocoa, in front of a fire on a cold day. Or in my case, a pair of shorts and flip-flops on the back patio.
A lady Coastguardsman searches for a killer. An oil rig troubleshooter accused of murder races to clear his name. The murderer strives to silence them both.
Sparks fly as Amber Meredith seeks to arrest Derrick Darbonne. She needs to solve her first case, but the handsome Cajun suspect makes her heart race and her toes tingle.
Derrick has worked all his life for his high-paying, adventurous job. When the past threatens his future, will he endanger the woman he loves in order to save himself?
