The Haunting of Maddy Clare

This is a really good tale of a death that came too soon and how the dead will try to find a way for us to help them find the peace they seek so badly.

It was really well written and I feel that any reader who is interested in the reason behind ghosts would really enjoy this book.

I totally loved this book. I didn't think I would, but it drew me in and made me care about the mystery of Maddy Clare. I wanted to know what really happened to her and what made her so angry at men. I questioned what was causing her to want to get her story out to the point that she caused such a commotion? This book is a real keeper.

Sarah Piper is leading a relatively boring, humdrum life until one day she gets a call from her temporary agency with a possible job for her. She decides what does she have to lose and she could definitely use the money. She meets with the person who has requested her services, a man named Alistair. She thinks he needs a secretary or to have some typing or filing done. What he tells her is something that blows her mind. He needs her to fill in for his assistant on an assignment he is going on. Only he is a paranormal investigator and he needs a woman for his current assignment as the ghost does not like men and his usual assistant is a man named Matthew.

Sarah is thinking this man is a total nut, does he really believe in ghosts? Against her better judgment, she decides to take the job. She figures whether she believes in ghosts or not doesn't really matter, it is just a job as an assistant and she could do that.

Alistair and Sarah travel to the country to investigate this ghost named Maddy Clare. When they start the investigation, Alistair sends Sarah alone into the barn where Maddy Clare seems to cause activity as Maddy does not like men. Maddy starts causing phenomenon to happen and causes Sarah to hallucinate which scares her to no end. She runs screaming from the barn. Unfortunately, she doesn't end up getting too much evidence in the process.

Before long Matthew, Alistair's usual assistant shows up, but Alistair talks Sarah into staying as they still need a woman for the investigation. Little by little the real story of Maddy Clare and what happened to her comes to light, not just the folklore that everyone spread around, but the real story and the real cause of why she may be hanging around to let people know the real story. Maddy goes to some extreme lengths to get Alistair and his group to pay attention to her and to help solve her mystery. She even tries to take Alistair for herself at one point. During the investigation Matthew and Sarah become closer as well and end up kind of falling for each other.

Can they put Maddy to rest so she can have some peace at last? Or will Maddy take Alistair to the other side with her and lose all chance of helping her?
